Where are you commuting from and to? I feel I have a long ride but I'm only going 80-90 a day

I live in the North Bay and commute all the way into the Bay. 80-90 a day is a lot man!

To be brutally honest, I keep wanting something with a little more power for commuting -- just because I spend the time on the bike and it would be nice to have a more "fun" bike. So I keep looking at a 990ADV, Multistrada or an Africa Twin; But then I slap myself and ask "Why?" The thing is paid off, costs virtually nothing to maintain, and all I do is ride it up and down the 101. There literally isn't a better bike for what I ask of it.

The Danmoto exhaust should have come with a little dog bone extender that mounts to the rear peg and then the pipe holder clamp. it moves the pipe support back about 4". I didn't install mine at first either, but you will find over time since the pipe support is so far forward without it, the pipe will loosen up. I put mine on and it moved the support around 4" back and the pipe is rock solid now. Just an FYI.

Picked up my wheel from local shop yesterday. Going to try the Kenda 671; less than the Conti Motion Pro and the bike hasn't liked the last 2 rear Conti's. The Kenda has more tread toward the middle of the tire than the Contis (the Conti's have a wide area down the center with no treads). Price is less $$ also.

Thanks, I wondered where that was suppose to go, the picture In the Ebay ad didn't show it on there so I didn't put it on. I will today this weekend though, I live on a really crappy dirt road, so it will loosen quick.

I ordered my 17 tooth, I also ordered the crush drive rubbers because mine are worn out. We will see how it works with the 17 sense I have a 41 on the rear already 2.69 to 2.41 might be a bit much, if it doesn't work out it's easy enough to change back

Yeah, that's more than I'd do. I'm going to use 17t front with the stock 43t rear. Not doing any true off-road, I find 1st practically useless with the stock gearing, I usually don't even make it from a stop at an intersection for maybe 15 or 20 feet before I want to be in second, often just don't use first at all. Moving it up a few percent will actually make it more useful for me. Really, I doubt anybody who knows when to shift will lose any acceleration. As for higher gears, seeing 75mph at 3766 rpm in sixth instead of 4001 rpm will be nice enough. Doesn't look like you'd ever hit the rev limiter in 5th, and you could be in 4th until 86 mph if you actually needed that. And it only moves the axle about 5/32" forward on the swingarm.

Yeah I know I probably won't leave it but it will fit with the chain I have on now and that way I can try it and see. My ride to work is 60 miles each way and over a mountain that's known for high winds, so riding to work once will tell me if it's going to work or not. Putting it on or taking it off and adjusting the rear wheel is less then a hour with me taking my time, not bad

Yeah, I notice a lot of people on forums act like it's a horrible thing to downshift to 5th let alone 4th to pass, or to ride uphill grades while maintaining higher speeds. Or to switch between riding for economy or for more acceleration. But I say why not use the entire gearbox to best effect for one's circumstances? It's great that gearing can easily be changed to suit the rider and his situation, and it's great that most modern bikes have more than 5-speed boxes...
