Lucus Fuel Treatment for the NC?

Now corn is being blended in today's fuel I've discovered when repairing bikes there are more carb and fuel system problems. Years ago I saw crusty varnish in the float bowls. Now it's greenish dried slime from the ethanol. A local bike dealer taught me that ethanol will begin to go bad after...

    First Gravel Road Ride 2-Up

I ride 2 up on similar roads as well. 25% dirt gravel and really enjoy the versatility of the bike exploring National Forest roads with a Garmin to get me back to civilization. The tires will slip going up a steep gavel road so you have to be easy on the throttle. Also the 17 inch front tire...

Clutch cable/adjuster cover - handlebar end

The engine side of the clutch cable needs a rubber cover too. I took one off an old dirt bike clutch cable and stretched it over the end. You would have too look at Honda dirt bike CRF's XR's ect part numbers and find something that fits.

    12,000 mile Brake Fluid Replacement

Nice pictures thanks for taking the time to post pictures and stressing the importance of this relatively simple task. As you pointed out, I don't need any fancy tools, just a catch bottle with the appropriate hose. The only thing I do different is have a spray bottle of water or windex on hand...

    Bestem low cost topbox

I posted the link. I bought and mounted the smaller box. The only mod was to hammer down the center rear hole on the mounting bracket to fit on a twisted throttle rack. Clean and sturdy mount. You also get the benefit of a nice tall backrest. Nice reasonably priced box. You do have to pay for...

Front Suspension Travel How Much ?

Thanks for the tips. Equal travel will ensure balance or at least predictability. I did find that the sag on the front was within 1/8" with 2 on (350lbs) vs. myself (195lbs). The rear was different but well within the 1/3' or 2 inch range of travel after a 3/4 turn of preload. I do have a...

Front Suspension Travel How Much ?

Makes sense. 1/3 would be just a guide to start. I never thought about trying to get a wire tie on the rear shock to record it's travel. Seems tough to get it in there. Could you use a small zip tie? Will the tie get shoved into the rubber stop? Or is there clearance on the bottom? Thanks...

    Rear shock spanner wrench??

That's odd the spring had to be adjusted with the adjusters to accomodate us "Novice" riders the bike was made for. Using a long metal rod and a soft blow hammer works fine. One turn is worth about 1/4 inch. You really can't get a spanner in there. Just spin both nuts together if you can't...

Front Suspension Travel How Much ?

I had inserted 10mm of a PVC spacer to bring the sag up but read the 5.4 inches in reviews where Honda listed 6. I'll just have to measure the travel best I can. There is a company that makes an adjustable preload cap for this bike for $100. The shims work fine if you don't need to adjust for...

Front Suspension Travel How Much ?

I want to set the sag on my front suspension and found conflicting information in the actual travel. Honda lists the front travel on a 2012 model as 6 inches and 5.4 inches on a 2013 for what appears to be the same 41mm fork. I set the sag for my weight by using shims behind the springs. I...

    full exhaust system

That's a very interesting point! I have a VFR-750-R with a full system. The bike sounded like a small block V8. I would rev and double clutch the bike just to hear and feel the performance. When I switch to an ulta quiet ST-1300, I figure what's the use reving it just ride. I get very...

So what did you do TO your NC700 today.

I put a 38 ltr top box from BestemUSA.com. I'm not really a top box fan but for $49 plus shipping you can't beat the convienence the box provides. Came with a sturdy metal mounting rack. 3 bolts on a Twisted Throttle rear rack....done. Easily fits a full face and has a nice rubber back pad...

    Primary Gear Drive?

Drifter if you go to a site like Rockymountainatv and get into the OEM Honda parts section. The parts for the NC700X are listed. You can get a good understanding of this simple motor. A motor turning this few RPMs and makes what torque it does is not going to tear up parts, providing the steel...

    Retired

OriginalRocket said it well, oil has to come up to temp for a period of time for moisture to evap out. The beauty of a bike engine is the parts are so compact the oil film migrates easily from part to part keeping everything nicely covered. I dismanteled a 1979 honda 2011 and found a nice film...

So what did you do TO your NC700 today.

    1. I added 5mm rubber spacers on the front seat bottom to take the slop out of the mount and increase the slope. 2. Added strobe brake light to tail with on/off switch under seat. 3. Tightened coolant hoses, all Hondas I've owned were too loose for me. 4. Hard wired GPS power, Battery...
