This guy has a DCT and spends a lot of time in the dirt: http://nc700-forum.com/forum/nc700-general-discussion/5524-scratches.html
As for mods, you'd need a skid plate and more gravel/dirt capable tires at the very least. Not saying I spend a lot of time on dirt roads though....
Not as handy as a flashlight, but I keep one of these tucked under the rear seat: Tecmate Optimate O120 12V/6 LED Flashlight with SAE Connector
Not cheap (About $20 on Amazon), but plenty bright if you already have a SAE connector available and any charge whatsoever. Plus you don't have...
Not to pile on TT too hard, but the points do expire if you don't use them within a year I believe. Got this via email last month:
"Your Twisted Points balance has changed!
Here are the transaction details:
Twisted Points Amount: -100
Your Balance: XXXX
Detail: Twisted Points expiration...
Yeah, I have a super cheesy one that I only paid a few bucks for plugged into my 12v lighter socket. Sorry the pic is so crappy. Celsius only, but it works OK. Note the little C to F conversion card I made in the GPS holder.
I'm on my second set of the plugfones and the design is certainly weak for riding use. On the latest set one side stopped working after about 6 months. I decided I actually liked the messed up set better for my commuting because I could still listen to the radio for news/traffic, in one ear and...
I'd definitely wait to see if you really think you are missing much of the view with the standard mounting plate. I like mine as it acts somewhat as a sunshade for the instrument panel and various other gadgets I have installed under it.
I was an early adopter (w/o the deflectors) and my 20" adventure model totally did away with all the buffeting stuff. Here it is with it's black anti-glow paint on the bottom.
Now when I go to the Madstad NC700 page, the only option is the Sport SD. Just wondering if the funky shape of...
Maybe they have changed the design, but so far as I can remember there were no deflectors with mine. They also don't mention the deflectors on the NC700X/NC750X order page at:
NC700X / NC750X
"This MadStad system consists of 3 parts: the mounting base (adapter plate), the windshield, and...
I'm not sure height is the problem. You might want to take a look at this thread before your next purchase:

Things are bit more casual in my office now that it's getting so hot down here in Houston.
I had to work last weekend!
In any case, I think I may have recognized a few of those roads. I got lucky and bought 12 acres up there around Evergreen in 2009. (The SHNF has both public and private land.) My place is pretty much equal distance from my house in Houston whether I take I-45 or...
I was in the first group to get the SHAD seats, but I still can't pop the rear seat up like the OEM did. That really doesn't bother me at all -- I just hold downward pressure on it and then turn the key to release it. The "end" result is sooooo much better than OEM!
Nah, SHAD has never got it too wrong once it shows as picked up in the UPS system -- you'll have SOMETHING for sure in a few days. My first shipment arrived with the wrong colored rear seat, but they eventually fixed that too.
I honestly don't remember the exact problem now. It could have been firmness, or a lack thereof; maybe the shape, or even something else. I clearly remember the pain though....
Cal Sci does have a lot of tech info/windshield theory available on their website, but more than one of their windscreens have developed cracks on the NC. Maybe that's bad luck, but maybe poor R&D. Nonetheless, I would think your small circular cutouts would be much less likely to lead to cracks...
I didn't like the constantly sliding forward thing -- I'd rather pull myself forward if I need to move in that direction. But I might have been able to live with that if my rear end didn't start hurting like hell after about 30 minutes on the bike; and nothing short of standing on the pegs or...
