2016: What did you do to/with your NC700 today?

Happy with the new slip on.

Happier with finding the quiet baffle installed - removed.

Happier with the more open baffle installed.
Ixil 2.jpg

Happiest with no baffle installed :)
Ixil 4.jpg

Not even obnoxious! Sounds the way it should, and if needed, slip the baffle back in.

Finished up my custom rack brackets for the GIVI Trekker Outback 37L side cases: (In case you haven't been following my other thread, the 2016 is too fat in the rear for the kit they supply for the older NC's. Side plastics under the pillion are fatter and the brake light up there makes the whole thing 1-2" wider... I ain't gonna let that stop me though lol...)

Custom made steel bracket, painted black and bolted together with stainless steel bolts and lock nuts:

Custom made rear cross brace that's longer than the kit one:

I loaded this up with some random camping supplies and took it for a 4 hour spin on the freeway and some rougher farm roads:

My mount isn't as beefy as the GIVI one but it seems to be holding up. The weight is partially supported by the passenger footpeg bolts so it's not going anywhere.

Today I did the DCT clutch learn thing in another thread, but also: cleaned, oiled and adjusted the chain, it was at 40mm I set it back to about 35mm.

I noticed the brakes felt a bit mushy so I bled both the front and the back. Lotsa bubbles, both reservoirs full enough after so I didn't need to add any. Big difference on the rear brake. Tried some emergency stops, stopping faster and shorter now. Bleed your brakes it takes like a minute.

Any thoughts on how air would be in the brake system on a fairly new 2016 model? This seems unusual. Has anything been apart, or do you think it was just manufactured poorly?

Dunno. Maybe the dealer. Do they put brake fluid in or does the factory? It wasn't too bad, just felt a lack of braking action and figured it was the budget bike thing. I really had to squeeze them hard to get the abs to activate and I figured that wasn't right.

Big Brutus is amazing. You really cannot understand how big it is until you stand right next to it.

I rode in the hills south and east of Seneca. This is SE of Goodman, Missouri. I think it is two Dodge trucks, one Chevy, and an old Jeep, all from the 1940s.

Someday I will master posting photos, but apparently today is not that day.

Cool! I love old vehicles. Wish I could afford to get one and refurbish it.

The factory installs brake fluid. The bike is essentially rideable when factory build is complete, except for maybe the front wheel, handlebars, and battery. Dealers do very little final prep (thankfully!). Honda knows how to put in place processes for building bikes at the factory, including filling braking systems without air. If there was air there from the factory, that would be a serious breakdown in their process. I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but it would be a major issue.

Took another quick ride with Sumo to Port Stanley and area last night to try out my cheapo seat pad solution.
IMG_2215.jpg

The seat pad is a MadDog / Coleman ATV seat protector. Apparently it is available for about $20 in U.S. Walmart's. I got mine on Amazon.ca for $27. The front of the pad folds under and is a near perfect fit (I cut off an unneeded set of buckles at the front). I secured the straps in place under the seat with a little duct tape and when the pad is not on the clips are not in the way at all. I definitely noticed some increased comfort last night. I plan on moving the buckles back so the last section's seam is right at the line between front and rear seats.

Changed the headlight bulb yesterday after work as the low beam had stopped working. Sure glad I installed those LED driving lamps. The whole job took about 5 minutes. Then I rode over to a friends place to do some recording. The ride home was great fun. I used to ride at night all the time but hardly get the chance any more. Forgot how much I love night riding. Sorry, no pics this time.

I had one of those Coleman seat covers for awhile on my Yamaha dualsport, before I got the Sit & Fly, which was a big improvement in comfort and appearance, aerates nicely in hot weather to minimize swamp ***, deals well with rain etc. Looks like the Coleman may be a bit better on the NCX than it was on dualsports, though....

Ten days since I got my NC700X. Besides some casual trips to the store or around the valley I've done:

Three days of ~ 250 miles
One day of 199 miles
One day of 366 miles

Still haven't really had time to research or order farkles! Here's from the 366-mile day:

rode 40-50 miles of backroads, dirt paths, and probably a few "hero" sections of loose rocks/gravel, sand, hills, and rocky descents. buried the rear up to the frame on one particularly loose uphill section!

a shot from some of the more mellow sandy areas:

That's pretty cool. I'm also riding the snot out of my new bike too! Can't get enough! I think I have done at most 400 miles in one day.

I have most of the farkles installed on my bike if you need help with something. Easier to list what I don't have: screen, risers, seat, muffler, tail tidy. (I like yours!)

How's the tread on your rear tire?
