I am far from even being close to being smart when it comes to electronics so I am posting what I found and what I am doing here to make me feel better. Please chime in and guide me as well.

Yesterday afternoon I went out to my NC700X and when I tried to start it all the lights came on, the voltmeter (which I installed about a year ago) read 11.3 and no start. It made a sharp click sound, not like the clicking you would hear when a starter goes bad. I hooked up a set of jumper cables and ran them from my other moto and the bike started right up. I let it run a bit and turned it off and it started right back up. I went out today and it again read 11.2 and would not start.

So, I removed the battery and brought it home and am going to hook it up to a trickle charger and let it charge for a day or two. This is the original battery and my bike is a 2012 that I bought in mid season of 2012. I know I should be happy that I got this many years out of it but I am hoping that by bringing the battery home and charging it I can get some more life out of it. The bike gets ridden as I have 34,000 miles on it so it doesn't usually just sit.

I probably forgot to mention but I live in a townhouse community that doesn't have garages and you are not allowed to park motorcycles in your driveway so I keep my motos in a storage unit about a mile away.

Any one else think that the battery might be recharged and good for a while or am I going to be forking out $200 for another battery. I can't believe that this battery costs more than th done I put own my Aprilia. To compare, About 3 months ago I had to replace the battery in my Aprilia of the first time. The original battery lasted from 2008 until a few months ago.

I think the odds are poor that it will work. The battery is likely toast, but you could have it load-tested to be sure. You are not out anything for your attempt, so give it a whirl. As far as $200 for a battery, I'd shop it around. You will find that the YTZ14S is the same physical size as the YTZ12s so you can get a couple of extra amps for free. Here are a few alternatives that beat $200...

Don't expect miracles. Your battery must be severely sulfated. If you want a lead acid battery to last 5 - 8 years, you must keep it always fully charged. Anyway 4+ is not so bad for this kind of battery and normal usage considering that you've some weeks above 77°F...

Definitely it's time to replace it. Any battery with the same specs will do the job. You may also use YTZ14S.

I would say you have a cell that is dying and would have it load tested to be sure. You got the life out of it, just hate to spend the money. I'm the same.

As Lee alluded to earlier, be aware that the Motocross brand battery is exactly the same battery as OEM. It is a Yuasa brand sold for lower cost.

My money is on a dead battery. You may be able to get a few more months out of it, assuming it holds a charge long enough to make it from your charger to your motorcycle. Sooner or later it will let you down when you need it. I expect to replace the OEM battery on my 2013 this year or next year.

Shop around. For $200, that would need to be a name brand AGM battery to be worth my money. I found a battery for $75 USD shipped off Amazon in less than two minutes.

wow, with shipping the sigmatek from battery shark is still only $36.80! for an AGM.

It was a dead battery. I have had great luck with the Yuasa batteries (this one in my Honda went 4 1/2 years and the one in my Aprilia lasted 7 years) so I bought another one. All is good now.

A brand new battery at $200 is cheaper than a tow truck service at the same price with free "you are a stupid rider" looks while they load up your dead bike.

Happy riding... :p
