Your McDonalds are way better quality then ours!I always factor in Mc Donalds into my long days of travel across Europe. The quality and price of their grub never varies and You know exactly what you will get on the daily long hauls. The biggest issue with restaurants on mainland Europe is time. One never gets out of one in less than an hour, but one is in and out of Mc's in 20 minutes and there is always a safe place to park without unloading the bike. I then revert to gourmet grub when staying in a particular area for a couple of days or more.
Some folks don't like giving over their lives to a GPS device, but I don't mind. It's thrilling to follow the directions and not know where I'm going... as long as I don't go off a cliff I suppose!

Hey Strat, i know we spoke about it but did you ever complete a 50cc trip across the country? I was also curious what 50cc you rode that was able to go 65mph, none i've ever seen hahaha!!?? :{)
50 cc is 50 hours coast to coast?I've finished three IBA rides:
1) saddle sore (1000 miles in 24 hrs or less)
2) saddle sore in state (calif.)
3) bun burner (1500 miles in 36 hrs or less)
The 50 cc eludes me. I've made two attempts. one on the NC and one on the FJR.
The 50 cc is (more than other rides) an exercise in sleep deprivation.
If you take the shortest route (San Diego to Jacksonville), you have 6 hours down time at the half way point. (Amarillo, TX).
I planned to sleep there, but I was dangerously tired when I got half way. Never ride beyond your ability, and I was certainly doing that by the time I got there. I knew it, so I backed off. DNF.
I think about trying again, leaving at 4 or 5 AM would be better than later, like I did last time...
I'd like to try again, but I don't handle loss of sleep well.

When I was younger road my 84 wing from Chicago to San Francisco in 34 hours and LA to Chicago on my 91 wing in 32. Many a time with the wife along we would do 18 hour days from Chicago to San Antonio. All back in the 55 mph speed limit days. Always wanted to do the iron butt thing but never had the chance.

I was doing about 110 from West of Des Moines Iowa to just past Wendover Nevada. Got stopped as I slowed to 75 and got ticketed for 75. Crossed the rest of NV doing 60 (was agonizing) then sped up again in CA.I like to cruise right around 75 mph. Your comment makes me think a group attack on the 50 CC (50 hours coast to coast) is something to think about. Not sure that would be better than going solo...
I'm up for the [Saddle Sore 1000] if anyone wants to try. (might take me a few days to get to where some of y'all are!)

The 2 NC's I bought I gave to my daughters. I think They are a great machine. If you want to go longer distances then you have to spend some money on the seat. 1st you could try some bar risers/setbacks if right now you need to reach a little. EVERY bike I get now gets it's stock seat swapped out. I am on a ST1300 and know what seat I want but things have stopped me. I have an Airhawk seat pad and that has made it ok for distance but nothing like a custom seat. I have a Corbin seat on my CBR 1100XX and Heli Bars on it. I would rather go long distance on that than the ST. You are right... you need saddle time to work up to distance. That or youth!That would be a kick. I've been trying to work up to that kind of a ride. I've had three 450-525 mile rides now, and need to make a few more adjustments. I'm now getting a lot of lower neck, middle of the shoulder muscle burning going on. My seated position always starts good, then i catch myself relaxing too much and slouching thus causing the lower neck/muscle burning. Stretching and correct posture corrects that, then after so many miles i get comfortable and it starts all over again. I enjoyed my 525 mile ride and felt pretty good afterwards, tired and more then ready to get off of the bike but still felt pretty good. I know myself and i def need more saddle time before i make an attempt later this year. Every saturday i try and head out for a long ride somewhere, and of course i find a neat little place for some PIE!! :{)
Yah there is a little smoke in our area. No fires in our area, but lots of smoke from surrounding states that are burning up... :{)
