Picking up a '13 NC700X Thursday!

Be aware that the OEM luggage is expensive due to the way Honda makes you buy many items to accomplish one goal.

To install side bags, you need to replace the passenger grab rails. You'll probably then want the rear rack otherwise the rails look goofy without it. Then you need to buy the saddelbag mounting hardware. Then you still need to buy the saddlebags. That's three to four separate accessories you need to buy. Aftermarket bags can be less expensive, give you more options, and you can possibly move the bags over to a new motorcycle when the time comes. The Honda bags appear to be made by Givi, but the mounts and bags aren't compatible with other Givi hardware.

See, this is why I consult with the experts first! Thank you so much! I was under the impression that all I needed was bags and brackets, didn't know other stuff had to be changed out too! I'm not too concerned with money, as I just sold a paid for Harley for $15,300 and replacing with a paid for $3800 NC LOL. So I have some cash to play with. But I may consider other bags now. I dont need giant bags and really dont like the look of the large metal square boxes. Some of the smaller givi models look decent. If I could find something where the brackets and bags can easily be completely removed in between road trips, that would be great. The frunk will suffice for most my riding in between road trips. However I have been spoiled with all the storage in my baggers and having it all the time that I may find decent bags and leave them on most all the time.

My NC came with OEM side cases and they are ok but if the previous owner hadn't installed them I would have gotten after market, there are some great options out there for the same price, some cost even less.
I personally bought the rear rack and think that was a good purchase, but you would have to buy grab bars to mount the rear rack (mostly a money grab on Honda's part)

The OEM heated grips are nice but require the OEM harness also, so there's cheaper options not sure if there's a quality difference.

The OEM screen sucks, the OEM tall screen is ok with modifications to the mount but madstad seems to be the best by consensus.

Wherever you buy it from I highly recommend getting a center stand

Not sure if your electrical abilities but adding electrical farkles is very common in the forum and NC's in general I think, there's many ways of doing so, ask questions or lay out your plans and others on the forum will help how they can.

This is the kindest and most helpful forum I've been on, there's many people on here that really know what they're talking about

I need to figure out how all the grab handle/ bag bracket / rear rack stuff mounts up. I have looked at givi and kappa bags and really dont see any I like better than the oem honda bags. Functionality matters but that's second to aesthetics. Lol.

The Givi v35's with the gloss silver inserts look pretty awesome from the side but are a little wider than what I prefer.

It’s been posted before that some members have gotten good deals on center stands at ATV Parts, ATV Tires, Dirt Bike Parts, Motocross Gear, Motorcycle parts and Motorcycle Tires | Rocky Mountain ATV/MC It looks like around $125 shipped. Sorry, missed earlier post :)

Thanks! I will def pick one up. Center stand is gonna be huge. Should be able to remove rear wheel and then prop something under engine and remove front wheel while its on center stand, without having to buy and fool with front and rear bike stands.

I may or may not have just went ahead and ordered a new Yoshi carbon fiber exhaust and the Kuryakyn #7933 pegs with 1.35" clamps to mount to the frame. I am 99% sure they will work. If not, I will try to sell them on here and buy some guards and other highway pegs. LOL.

Patience has never been one of my virtues.

Go to Honda’s website and “build” your model with the factory accessories to see the pricing on the components you need. I stayed with OEM (opinions vary!) due to aesthetics - they are made for the bike, after all, and for the ease of removal and clean look when they’re off the bike. Not the roomiest on the market by a long shot - but they’ve been adequate for my needs. And the frunk goes a long way to making up some slack. That’s one of the best features of the entire bike.

I bought my 2015 DCT with the OEM bags - it was my first ever motorcycle. I would not recommend the OEM bags, not only because of the all the parts you have to buy, but they are an odd shape. They are anesthetically compatible with the lines of the bike, but space-wise not efficient. And expensive once you’re all in.

I would have preferred any of the more adventure oriented panniers, more square and preferably top loading.

I have no doubt they will work in terms of fitment, just worried about the angle my leg will hit the peg. I can't really move the lower part of my leg around a whole lot, but after studying the pic of them from the top-down view, I believe they will be fine for me.

I saw another member on here with black and silver nc700 with black Givi bags, I believe E22 was the model number? The small ones that you can mount both ways (frontward or backward) to change the look. I will have to figure out the best mounting brackets for those and exactly how they mount, but those may be a winner. They looked pretty good from all angles on his bike.

I bought the SW-Motec pannier racks for my NC. They have quick-lock fasteners so you can remove the whole frame from the bike when the panniers are not needed. They have mounting kits for the GIVI bags as well.

The also bought the SW-Motec ALU rack.

Be advised. Rear racks and side racks usually need to be from the same manufacturer to be compatible. They typically bolt to each other when used together.

The pic below has the SW-Motec rear and side racks mounted but no panniers. Also installed is a “soft luggage adapter “ plate on the rear rack.

Good info! I suspected the side brackets and rear rack might mount together from other posts, but wasn't 100% sure.

Side note: long drives suck. Lol. 1 hour to go 'til pick-up.

on my 2016 it's the same key, but some people were getting generic keys cut to leave in the frunk.

if the keys are different the lock/ignition may have been replaced.

There are two different keys with it, they look very similar, however, one is slightly different in 1 or 2 little parts. Kinda odd.

I was really surprised, I could just barely bend my knee enough to catch the peg while scooted back on the seat so I could ride it down the road. Definitely not a powerhouse but its pretty close to what I expected, I think it will be fine. I think I may have screwed up ordering those frame mounted highway pegs, as I cannot move my foot right or left and it's kinda kicked toward the outside when mocking it up to see where it would land on the peg. I may end up having to sell the ones I ordered and doing engine guards and pegs instead so they stick out a little farther. I am going to give these a try first though.
