Here’s why I’m going riding next week: 60s F in Arkansas starting Sunday! I hope today is the last day I see anything over 80*F until June, 2020.

Have you been to this area before? Some amazing roads around Jasper. AR-123 is a must ride.

I go there once or twice a year. I have the route numbers memorized now. The riding is awesome and the traffic is non existent.

Shhh, don’t be telling people how great AR-123 is. I like to have it to myself! Instead, tell people to go ride the Pig Trail.

Purchased my next track day, for Nov 9th at Barber Motorsports Park. I am ecstatic, this month is 10 years since I rode there, it was my last trackday before the big wreck. They just repaved the whole track a couple months ago, man it's going to be awesome. 100 million dollar venue, 45' wide track all the way around, 80' of elevation change. Only bad part? Member price (discounted) is $245 for one day! It's only $99 to go to Talladega GP. Probably be last time I ride at Barber for a while, that price dents the bank account a little harder. But it will be so worth it!

Before Nov 9th I have to:

Drain coolant.
Do valve adjustment.
Refill radiator with track-approved coolant.
Install new chain/sprockets.
Mount/balance new rear tire.
Up the preload on rear shock.
Grind the kickstand base down for lean angle clearance.

And get ready to put a knee to the ground!

This track is predominantly right hand turns as opposed to Tally only having one right hander, so there will be more knee draggin action at this one!

Left the house yesterday after lunch in a sunny 70(F) degrees to ride to the high school for fencing practice.

Left the fencing practice at 6pm with temps about 60(F) to head over to the fencing club for a beginners class.

Left the beginners class about 9pm with temps closing in on 50(F) to ride home and dropping.

Didn't plan for the 50 degree ride home and was fairly cold despite that leg of the ride being the shortest of the runs. Had to make a pit stop at the adult beverage emporium for a bottle of Old Forester's 2019 limited release "Birthday Bourbon" :) which the owner was hiding in the back room and saving for me. Continued on home. He tried to get me to sample a few new releases but I actually follow a strict rule of no drinking and riding, so the unopened bottle rode home in the top box. I've often sat in his back room tasting samples of rare whiskey and scotch, but never while I ride. Not that its OK to drink and drive, these are sample sips and I stay below legal limits on night when I sit back there tasting samples. He and I have picked a few select barrels in the past and we've known each other for a couple dozen years. When good stuff like Pappy Van Winkle or Parker's Heritage show up, he sets aside a bottle for me.

I should have planned ahead and tossed in a light insulation layer in my bag, while the Firstgear Kilimanjaro did its best, I only had a sweaty t-shirt on under the jacket and that wasn't good enough.

I don’t have a lot of hard and fast rules in my life, but this is one - I can drink, or I can ride, but I can’t do both. Deck is already stacked against motorcycles without me knowingly worsening my odds. [emoji6]

I know lots of guys who ride to bars. There are plenty of poker runs around here where you ride bar to bar to bar, and I know some of the folks imbibe at each. Or do plenty of imbibing at the end of the run. That is just not for me.

But I do enjoy a fine bottle of rare bourbon. In fact I enjoy a lot of fine bottles of rare and expensive bourbons, I have extra bottles of Pappy Van Winkle, years of limited release OF Birthday, all the B.T.A.C. varietals, etc. But I won't drink when I ride. Not even a sample. My wife says all men are idiots and I am their king. I don't need to be a dead idiot.

I had a one beer a few years back that I would be fine driving the car. On the bike I noticed the difference and have not done it since.

When I do multi day trips a very good bottle of bourbon or rye is in the bag - for the after-ride relaxation (usually with a good pipe or cigar as well). But never during the ride. [emoji106]

Same here. Some of my goto's are Rowan's Creek, Noah's Mill or Four Roses Single or Rare Breed are in the bags. Last one was actually some Woodford Double-Oaked. I have some really nice-smelling Mac Baren Vanilla Cream e pipe tobacco I cannot wait to try out. Toss in a good fire, comfy chair and an interesting read and I am good for the night.

If we're being honest, I'm a pretty big fan of having a few beers while out on motorbikes if given the opportunity. I don't do it often and try not to overindulge, but it has happened. But, it doesn't make much of a difference in my judgement. I know all the safety nazis will say otherwise, but I've always been able to drive extremely well even after over indulging. Goes for cars or motorcycles. In my younger days, I was always the DD (drunk driver) because I didn't trust riding with friends and I knew I was capable of getting us all home without any accidental or legal issues.

I did get a DUI back in 2011, but it was a result of other factors. I had already dropped all my buddies off safely and was heading home and got popped for speeding, smelled the booze, went to jail. I normally wouldn't have been speeding, but we all used to be cool with the night shift cops in our area. They knew what we were doing out at night and never bothered us, and if they pulled us over, they just told us to go home, and sometimes would even follow us home. Eventually those guys found better jobs elsewhere and got some rookies in their place. I was literally less than 1 mile from my house and the road is a 40mph road, but you can easily run 70mph on it without any issue, and I was used to flying down that road because of the leniancy of the local cops....then I got busted by a rookie for speeding. Lol

I dont drink near as much as I used to, but still don't hesitate to have a few and drive. My wife doesn't drink a whole lot, so if we are out (in a car) and I have a few, I let her drive home, because a DUI would impact me more now than in my younger days.

If we're being honest...

All the hippies and hypocrites have those silly "COEXIST" bumperstickers on their cars yet they are often the least tolerant people if someone express an opinion that differs from their opinion du jour.

But when it comes to riding I think its best to coexist and ride your own ride.

We can all share that passion.

I travel with bourbon. I live with bourbon. Probably 100 bottles in my cabinets at any time. And virtually none of those are commonly found on store shelves. Fine and rare limited editions for me. We each have our own passions. Me: its guns, dogs and bourbon in addition to taking a ride on a bike. Take it or leave it. I'm all in favor of letting other ride as they wish as long as I can ride my ride.

You and I would probably get along well. Not because of the bourbon, but moreso mindsets. I'm solely a beer drinker, although a connoisseur of sorts. I keep up with new beers drank on an app, currently at 815 different beers. Had to back down on my craft beer consumption, some of those have 300+ calories in them...I used to be skinny as a bean pole, then my metabolism slowed down and my tendency to eat well and drink fine beers snuck up on me quick in the form of new pants and shirt sizes. Lol

Any sort of liqour makes me cringe. Probably due to too many pints of Jack Daniel's drank straight or chased in high school. Those nights usually involved atv's and camping, and most of those nights I made by bed somewhere in the leaves on the ground unintentionally, and never made it to the tent I had previously set up earlier that night. The smell of any whiskey or whatever gives me flashbacks. Lol

You should try this
Villiger New World Export 1.5oz | Buy Villiger Pipe Tobacco at Smokingpipes

A lot folks don’t care for aromatics, but this is dry, cool smoking, and smells great. I love Virginia’s and a few English (Old Dog is a fav whenever I can find a stray tin) - but this Villiger is very good.

Took an 80 mile recon ride to check the progress of a bridge being replaced on one of the ride routes, turns out it isn't set to be completed until summer of 2021 ... there is a single lane over the old bridge being used with a traffic light.

At this point the delay seems to only be about 5 mins so we're still a go. At some point it's supposed to be up to a 40 min delay, we will not be going that way once that happens.

And back to our regularly scheduled program...

Today all it did was sit under the cover and pout while i took the van to work. I had to make a Lowes trip and haul a new dishwasher and 2 front doors/frames. It was packed full and very little weight.
hahah Tomorrow i will take the NC out for a nice long ride to make up for it! :{)

Rode 500 miles today between home and Northern Arkansas. The ride started at 44*F and ended somewhere around 80*F. Shivering to sweating in the course of one ride! But, the winds were light and the roads were dry. The NC got to take it’s fifth boat ride today. Once on a ship to the US from the Japan factory, I assume, and four times with me on ferries. It was a good day in motorcycle land.

When I had the bike dynoed last week they commented on the front tire needing replacement in front of my spouse. She offered to help so we did half of the work pulling the wheel and forks off this evening. I don't like her to hear it but I am a lucky fellow...doh she is reading over my shoulder.... Tire replacement and new fork oil on the agenda for the weekend.

Welp starting to tear her down. Got the old chain and rear sprocket off, cleaned up the drive hub and nuts, installed new sprocket, that black looks soooo much better. Oem sprocket was fine, but who doesn't like cosmetic upgrades? Haven't gotten the front sprocket off yet to look at it.

When I ordered my chain and sprockets from Sprocket Center, I did so over the phone and asked about a clip type link, guy said he would throw one in the box at no extra charge. Super awesome of him! Except he forgot to throw one in the box....now I'm debating on calling them back and getting one or buying a rivet tool and just riveting the link that came with it. I know it's better to do it that way, so I may break down and buy a tool.

Also noticed I scraped that little plastic slider/protector thing on the left side under where the front sprocket is at the track! Didn't reallize that was dragging. Hopefully adding rear preload will mitigate alot of the hard parts dragging.

And now I'm trying to decide if my old tire is good for the upcoming track day at Barber. Been hearing that new asphalt is really wearing on tires, but I have only done 2 track days on this tire, hate to take it off early. Hmmm....probably will ask some of the track instructors and see what they say, I'm not sure if it will be good to go or not.

Front sprocket replaced. Oem one looked good too.

Reckon there'd be any interest in the pair of oem sprockets for $20 shipped to anyone in lower 48 states?
