New member welcome thread..

This new 850 being discussed is not the Baby Africa Twin, at least not in my book. If this 850 is to become an adventure bike, it would simply be another full sized adventure bike, a replacement for the current Africa Twin. Plus, that 850 engine is sure to morph into a 1000cc in a few short years. A Baby AT needs to start out as a 450cc, around 400 pounds. Starting a Baby AT as a 450 would allow a little bit of displacement creep, as always happens, and still keep it from becoming just another overweight, overpowered bloatcycle like the rest of them.

I hope Honda is paying attention to the requests for a true mid-sized adventure motorcycle, and does it the right way. If Honda doesn’t do it right, maybe other manufacturers will.
Hi Greg,

I am not sure I agree. There is a glaring hole in Honda's line-up. Both Triumph and GMW have an 850 adventure bike and I believe one, if not both, are doing very well. I think this 850 just may fill that gap.

An 850 could fill that gap, yes. But many riders have been asking for a bike in the Honda lineup that fills a huge gap between a CRF250L Rally, and the full size Africa Twin. That would be somewhere in the 400-600cc range. An 850 certainly can’t be called a “baby” if it’s already over 75% the engine size of the current Africa Twin (and will probably weigh almost as much), and that’s before the inevitable displacement creep eventually pushes the new 850 close to liter size. That is not a baby by my definition.

Sorry, this is the new member welcome thread, so I‘ll stop carrying on about adventure bikes here.

Welcome, Ray. I joined only a few months ago, when I purchased my 2020 NC750. If you are planning on maintaining your ST, you might want to read up on what the new 850 is going to be next year. I've heard it's the unicorn Baby Africa Twin, while by the engine drawings, it looks awfully similar to an NC750X, with a slightly smaller engine but similar placement. Many hear lament the lack of power of the 750 on this userboard. At age 50, I am fairly okay with it. For me the biggest selling piece is the frunk. I don't know how many times I've used it to put food for a quick grocery store run, liquor store, store my helmet, my paperwork, hand sanitizer, facemask, water bottle, etc.... YMMV. But it's a solid bike and I am very happy with the purchase. Welcome to the neighborhood.
Thank you, at 52 I just want a lighter bike to cruise on if I need to get there in a hurry I will ride my ST

Hi everyone. I am a sportbike rider, lover of all motorcycles really, that has been wanting another bike to do a bit more adventuring with. I wanted something inexpensive, very reliable, fuel efficient, easy to ride, practical, that could be used for just cruising to the beach to flogging in the dirt. I looked at a few used BMW F800's but they were twice the price of a nice used NC..... A traditional dual sport doesnt offer the wind protection or long distance hightway speed that I was looking for so I recently picked up a '12 NC700x that I plan on mounting a set of 50/50 too.

Hi there,

My name is Travis. I am on my fist bike and its a Honda NC700X. Loving it so far. I live in South Africa, and its just a great bike for cruising around on. Looking to do some minor upgrades to make it a bit more of an adventure type bike. But also trying to do a lot of things myself, so I have a lot to learn. Hoping to learn that here...

Thanks all!

Welcome to the forum, Travis. There are many good people here that can help you with modifications and maintenance. Enjoy the ride!

Thanks Rapturee. Closest I ever got to Idaho was Vancouver, Canada. But I would love to come up there one day and explore!

I have been all over BC and On Canada, though i have yet to go to Vancouver and it is only 6 hours from me. (hmm, maybe i'll head there next before our snow flies and sets in for the winter). If you ever do make it up in our area again, make sure to sound off and we'll meet up. Steak supper is on me! :{)

Will definitely do that! Sounds good.

Hello!

My name is Ricky and I just got a 2012 NC700X a few months ago. It replaced a 2006 Honda Rebel I bought new 14 years ago and had to sell to move from Georgia, USA to Idaho, USA. The plan was to eventually upgrade, but every time I started shopping around, my wife would get pregnant. Haha. Some kind of conspiracy theory there.

I've ridden the bike locally and heard Idaho has some beautiful roads I need to explore so super excited even though there seems to be a snowmaggedon coming this winter. I also look forward to reading about your bikes and getting to know everyone better.

I've heard Idaho has some beautiful roads I need to explore, so super excited!! GOOD FOR YOU, THERE ARE LITLERALLY HUNDREDS OF MILES OF SOME OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SCENERY/ROADS RIGHT HERE IN IDAHO AND THE GREATER PNW!

there seems to be a snow-maggedon coming this winter
NAH, THAT'S JUST A RUMOR THE LIBERALS SEEM TO SPREAD EVERY FALL SEASON LOL

SERIOUSLY THOUGH, I RIDE A LOT OF IDAHO'S BACK ROADS, SMALL STATE HIGHWAYS, LOGGING AND FOREST SERVICE ROAD ETC AND LOVE IT. YOU STILL HAVE SOME GOOD RIDING LEFT BEFORE THANKSGIVING TIME. THAT'S USUALLY WHEN THE SNOW STAYS,...THOUGH NOT ALWAYS. GET SOME WARM GEAR TOGETHER AND STRT RACKING UP THE MILES THIS YEAR, NOW. YOU'LL HAVE ALL WINTER TO PLAN OUT TRIPS FOR NEXT YEAR.

IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN MEETING UP AND RIDING SOME ROADS TOGETHER ELT ME KNOW AS YOU'RE ONLY ABOUT 400 MILES SOUTH OF ME. WE CAN MEET UP SOMETIME HALF WAY IF YOU'D LIKE, I'M ALWAYS UP FOR A RIDE!! :{)

Hi all,
I live in sunny South Africa and purchased a 2015 NC750X about two months ago.
The bike only had 6200km on the clock when I took it home.
Mileage has increased to 9800km already and I am constantly looking for excuses to go for rides.
I have added bigger foot pegs, rear shock protector and a radiator guard so far and the other farkles will be added in due time.
Stay safe out there
