Considering buying one - need advice

FIrst off, not a troll, so don't go there. :)

Didn't know much about these bikes but have read and learned a lot in the last week.
For a few reasons, I am thinking of getting one. There's a local one that looks good, and I got to ride it today.
Riding history: just sold my Vespa GTS300, previous bikes are BMW K75s and R1200RTP, and a sweet Honda Hawk GT (any hawklisters here?)
I've read that the newer NC750x have some improvements, but at 2x the cost, doesn't seem worth it.

So, the bike I am looking at.
2016 NC700X DCT ABS, 11k miles. Had new tires at 8k, radiator was replaced due to road debris (now has a shield over it). 1 owner, all service done.
Farkles include rear case, engine guards, hand guards, windshield and some other stuff.

Riding impressions:
I specifically want the ABS, specifically didn't want the DCT, but they come as a pair.
Got on the bike, and honestly the hardest part about DCT is not having a clutch lever. It just feels weird.
Once you get going, it's really fine. No different than my daughter's Audi with a DSG gearbox. Would I prefer a manual? In both cases, yes.
Position, weight, handling all good. A bit soft/squishy but it's a commuter bike and I know that can be improved.

Here's what bugs me. The engine feels lumpy. At low rpm, it feels somewhat unbalanced, like a Subaru or Porsche boxer engine that's out of tune.
Upon accelerating, it smooths out, and in sport mode it felt OK, but it just somehow felt... agricultural.

So my question: is this typical? Or, is the bike perhaps out of tune, especially since it's been sitting since February?
I've read not to expect typical Honda (or other) revviness, but this seems like more than that.

Other than the lumpiness and a dead battery, bike seems OK and a decent deal at around $5k? Or should I push for lower to get this set up right?

Oh, the parking brake was weird but kinda cool, I can see where that would be useful.

Thanks!

2014 NC750xs the only add on’s grip puppies windscreen and air hawk can’t say enough about this bike. My last motorcycle was an RD 400 2 stroke in 1985 after three crashes in one day I took a 35 year hiatus from riding made me come back this spring

you've got a nice bike. they are good bikes.
I like 3 things about these NC's ..the frunk, dtc and handbrake especialy if I'm on a slope and want to take a picture.
not to mention mpg.
I'm considering in getting another when I'm done with my big bike (tracer 900)
I fancy the 'S' model as I've already had an X model.

Sweet Ride. What seats do you have? the rear looks awesome.

Motor is lumpy becasue people are idiots and want to feel their bike like a Harley. On a manual you'll probably not be at that low an RPM, but the DCT will drive it there all the time.

The 750 improvements vs. 700 are really just the speedo/display & better lights. The 750 has the same acceleration because they geared it higher to keep the same mileage.

Get a red one - red bikes are fastest.

Two factors:
It seems like all the non-current new NCxs are manual shift
I've always thought I'd want a DCT
When you watch reviews, commuters seem to always be favorable toward the DCT
Sport riders or big cc bikes, not so much

I primarily want the bike for commuting and bike camping a half dozen times a season

How much would I be wishing for a DCT if I settle of a manual?
I may wait to find a low mileage used Nc750x DCT

I have the 2018 NC750X in manual with no regrets. But i have never tried the DCT version so maybe I just don't know what I am missing. But I enjoy shifting, even on my commute.

Lee, only you could answer that question...When I bought my 2013 NC700x new in 2013, I had the option of getting a DCT; however, I really enjoy manually shifting and DCT does add more complication to the bike and 'potentially' something else that could go wrong....DCTs are known to want a very healthy battery while a manual may start on a weak battery (but I have had a battery go bad overnight-starting the bike one day and click click click the next day and no longer take a charge)...very few DCT owners on here, in any, has questioned their choice though.

X2 on what davidc83 says, except mine is a 2012 manual. No regrets whatsoever. I'm keeping it for a long, long time.

Lee, DCT or manual is like deciding if you like chocolate or vanilla. It's your choice.

Maybe it will come down to the best deal I can make. But I do have manuals on the GL650 and GL500 when I need some clutch time. As well as my Civic.
I certainly would like one with ZERO miles on it. There are good deals on new (not current) 2019 and 2018 manual 6s within 5 hours of me.

I love manual shifting. I even had a small NATO tank with a manual transmission that I used to teach kids how to shift. Loved our old VW Squareback, Fiat 500, Triumph TR6 and Oliver Super 55 diesel tractor. But I’m LOVING my wife’s DCT NC700X and my DCT NC750x motorcycles. In fact, after gettin past the DCT learning curve, I see no reason to go back to a manual bike. I am literally in love with the MotoGuzzi V85TT but despite having permission from my wife to buy one, I’m keeping my NC750x DCT. It’s just magic.

Others may differ in their opinions, even suggest that a NC750x DCT is not a ‘real’ motorcycle. I’m OK with that. But damn it’s just a nice bike and the DCT makes it better.

YMMV

I have found that (for me) D mode only gets used on the highways where I am running 60+. Around town and on the curvy roads, its S mode or manually shifting. I find that the more I ride the DCT the more comfortable I get with it. I no longer grab for the clutch when I come to a stop.

I wish DCT was available here. This is what I see nearby, new non-current but only manual.

Here is a 2020 about the same price (all three have Zero miles) No DCTs show up unless you are shopping for a Goldwing or Africa Twin. Too expensive and too big for what I want.)

I thought the end of riding season would be good, but I think Covid has changed that. I may have to wait until spring. I need to patient. One other way of going is low mileage used that has DCT, a centerstand, custom seat and bigger windshield.

Here is one:

yea, Looks like you would have to travel a few hundred miles to find one:

Red is good. I'd like one with the DCT updates. I've read here that their is little difference between the 700s and 750s otherwise. I was hoping for upgrades on any used bike.
