Welp...was gonna run to town to pick up some parts for my truck on my cruiser Dec 9th, and some old lady merged over on me in my lane and bumped me off the road. Locked brakes down and slid straight into sidewalk curb in the middle of town and crashed as soon as I hit the curb. Don't remember any of it. Was in hospital for 5 days, and laid up for a couple weeks as home therafter. Had bad concussion with brain bleed, few randome cuts on elbow, knee, and ankle. Almost back to 100% now though, so it's all good. Could have easily been worse, so I can't complain. Was wearing half helmet too, no idea how it didn't mess up my face, but it beat that helmet all to hell.

Bike isn't destroyed but already got insurance estimate and it will be a total loss. So I will have to figure out what cruiser to get next. Thinking about a Kawi Vulcan Vaquero 1700, the bigger brother to the Nomad 1600 I crashed.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Glad to hear you are healing well.

Hopefully the "old lady" stopped and you now have her insurance information.

I noticed that the underside of your bike is cleaner than the topside of any of my bikes.

Holy crap. That sucks. Thank goodness for the brain bucket - avoided some serious ”tissue damage”...

Get better and go shopping

Well I started a claim with my insurance so it will be covered either way, but the way they wrote the wreck report up, based on what she told them only, it looks like my fault. So, I've enlisted the help of a friend of mine who is a seasoned attorney to try and pin this on her insurance. The police didn't even list either of our insurance companies on the report, so we gotta figure out who her insurance is with first. Didn't even list her phone number. Only her name and physical address. Not sure if we'll be able to do anything or not, but at least my Allstate policy will cover it in the event of worst case scenario.

Seems like in a motorcycle vs car accident where the car moved into the bike's lane it would be obvious that the fault might lie with the driver of the car. Glad you are here to tell us the story and (apparently) no long term damage to your body. Enjoy the shopping.

If no other witnesses came forward, it wouldnt be hard to convince the police the bike caused it....'He sideswiped me and lost control of his bike'. I have been using cheap Chinese knock off dash cameras...The one I liked using finally gave up the ghost....Think I am going to invest in a quality dash camera for the bikes...with running dash cameras, there would be no question...

Yeah kind of what I was thinking. If I was coherent at the scene, it have likely went much differently. Lol

Crashing suks..especially when the old noggin' is involved....BTDT...

But I gotta say, that brain bucket looks like a novelty item...
It was a novelty helmet, although I don't see a DOT half helmet serving much different in the same circumstances. But who knows, really....it might have. I guess the thicker, denser foam inside would provide a little more shock absorption protection.
