I got a wooden seat bottom and cut out a blank for the pillion .
Going on my first big trip with my 2020 750dct in a couple of weeks.
There's no way I was going to remove my dry bag with every fill up. So, I made a thing. I'm too cheap for a Dale's Rack. This a cheap alternative...did I mention im cheap?
It is primed , then bed liner from a rattle can, then black semi-gloss pant.
Just fitted it and its going to work.
I have gone from a BMW R1200 GSA last year to the NC this year.
Got to learn to be a better minimalist!
Anyway, here's some pics

So can you post some "how to" details on what you did to make this?

I have a Dale's rack on my bike but I've been thinking about doing something for my wife's bike.

I'm a wood finisiher so have access to lots of "stuff" wooden. My block of wood just happen to be a scratched up walnut seat we replaced. I would get a piece at least 3/4" thick.
Take the pillion seat off and trace out the pattern.
Cut it out with a skill saw. Soften the edges with a sander.
That part takes a while.
I also had to bevel the underside of the rear part.
Mine is just attached with wood screws and doesn't latch.
Rattle can primer and paint is how i did it.

A quick search revealed that seat bottoms are cheap!! The dishing out looks better than a straight block would look.

It looks like it was upholstered. Apparently that is just the matte finish of the paint?

After the primer, I sprayed a truck bed liner (again, rattle can) for a little more grip. Then, the semi gloss black.
It could easily be covered. I didn't want to cut into my BRAND NEW pillion seat!
Speaking of, does anyone know if the 700 pillion will fit the 750?
I'd buy another seat and cut out the gas cap area.

2016 and ‘17 NC700x will interchange with 2018 and newer NC750x. Not sure about earlier years.

I was just reading this and thinking the natural follow-on would be to modify a stock pillion seat pan with a cut out for the gas cap and reupholster. Someone should try this! Not me, of course. I am all thumbs when it comes to upholstery. I tried to put a new seat cover on my old '85 Honda XR 200 and it came out looking like a skinny kid wearing 2XL pants.

We've had a member do that and his wife (if i remember right) sewed a flap over the cut out. I would do the cut out on another seat but my bike is only 2,000 miles old....if I could get a cheap used seat, I'd do it.
