I had to go into work to pick up my laptop, so I thought I'd take the bike (about 36 miles round trip)
While I was there, I thought; I'm so close, why don't I take a ride over to the St. Croix River. there's a nice town called Stillwater to visit.
While I was at the river, I figured; since I'm here, why don't i just ride up the river to Taylors Falls, it's a nice ride...
Once I got there, I remembered; hmm, there's some construction on the main freeway, perhaps I should take an alternate route home...

About 150 miles or so later I got home. Boy did I have to pee!

Installed kappa racks, kappa k33 side cases, emgo top box, and a Madstad windshield. Got out for the first ride with these this afternoon...
The Madstad is a nice improvement over the stock shield - considerably less wind noise. Can't say that I even noticed the cases while riding.
Only issue is that I find that I'm scuffing one or more of them with my boot every time I get on or off the bike. Guess I need to work on my technique!

930 km on the bike (new '20) after today's ride.

They make tough self stick clear tape you can put in those areas. I had it on my FJR saddlebags. Being old and stubby legged I kicked them every time I got on and off.

Ran some errands today. Stopped at the CVS for baby wipes and a prescription, then the True Value for paint, rode across the county to get lunch at a little Vietnamese restaurant that makes the best Pho this side of Chicago's Chinatown. Then to the adult beverage emporium to pick up a half dozen bottles wine for the lovely Mrs_Bob. Gone for about 3.5 hours total, not very far or very exciting, but it was a nice break from the norm.

Hey thanks, that's not a bad idea...probably going to try that!
Look for 3M brand double sided automotive tape. It will stick something to your bike for a decade, but can be removed if you really work at it and when removing it the tape will not damage to the factory paint. I've used it on vehicles and several projects. It is a 'foam' core tape and as close to weatherproof as is possible.

I think I'm at the point where I can officially consider my bike broken in. I am about a month shy of owning my '17 for four years, bought it with 8 miles on the clock. I don't remember what it was at before I test rode it.
Anything significant to note about your 50K ownership? Any issues other than normal wear items?

No, it's been mostly smooth sailing. I did blow out the dampening on the stock shock around 46k, but I did load up the bike with lots of weight (2up multiday touring) on multiple occasions. That was one of those hidden blessings, like getting in a car accident. When I got to the doctor, he said the shock had a hidden cancer— cheapness! I can't say enough good things about Cogent Dynamics and their work.

I'm on my fourth set of chains and sprockets, third set of tires, and 259th tank of gas. Nothing big to report but thousands of well loved miles.

Wow, that' a lot of chains and sprockets in 50,000 miles. I turned 57,000 miles today on my CB 1100 and on my second set of chains and sprockets. I expect to get yet another 20,000 out of this set.

Yeah

My first chain-driven bike was the NC. I was a nervous nelly about chain maintenance so I didn't do any on my first chain until about 10k miles. I wrecked my second chain's O-rings by being too enthusiastic with a grunge brush. I got at least 15k miles out of my last one before finding some stiff links. I live in Washington and ride year round. In deep winter they spray antifreeze on the roads which accelerates rust quite rudely.

I'm now lubing every 500 miles and cleaning+lubing every 1500-2000 depending on the grunge level. I've only needed to do a few very minor adjustments on this set. I think it was installed when I did my 36k interval, forgot to take notes for that one though.

Live and learn. Or as the kids might be saying these days, you YOLO only once.

Rode both bikes yesterday evening after I got off work...I have a 20 mile circuit which has 200+ curves-some 90' stuff-...but below is what I woke up to this morning:

I have a similar loop I like to ride a couple days a week. It's a little longer at 32 miles, but similar number of curves, with elevation changes. Nice having roads like that starting when you leave your driveway isnt it? Yea, we woke up to 2-3" of that stuff here too. A new record snowfall for this date in Cinti.

yea, I have the elevation changes too....also....record amount for snow for this date in Louisville and southern Indiana....almost 3" at my house overnight (and it didnt start until after 1030pm-I went to bed at that time, so dont know when it actually started)...

Didnt know there were any roads that nice in Indiana. I ride some over near Lawrenceburg but they are not as nice as I have here at home and in Northern Kentucky.

Snow covered here in SE Michigan this morning. Some of the freeways were closed due to multi-car accidents.
Glad it's going to melt away today.

I awoke at 4am to a loud sound. A big branch broke off a maple tree next to our home and landed on our house and deck. It took a sunsail and our antenna with it. It was 60 degrees when we went to bed. It was a crazy overnight snow storm.
