As a daily year round rider of 56 years here are some things I've come to learn. One thing to keep in mind when riding in colder temps, wait until the heat of the day if possible, which is usually around 2-3 pm. Stick to flat-straight roads if you can, and preferably state routes that traffic uses for daily commutes. The auto traffic tires will aid in cleaning, drying and heating the surface of the roads. Stick to the low speed lane on divided two lanes because they get the most traffic and ride the left tire track area of your lane. Avoid bridges and over passes. Throttle and brake smoothly, so sudden movements on what could be slippery surfaces. All this goes for riding in the rain as well.
Your tips are noted and appreciated.

Just back from a 614km round trip over the weekend. 75% narrow little country lanes (many with grass in the middle) as is my preference. I was travelling with a restless soul who loves to push on, so no photos. One of the reasons why I prefer to travel solo on long trips away from home, when I can stop where I please without accounting to anyone. Anyway on the outward trip we had gales and driving rain. It added to the challenge of the roads we were riding. Yesterday on the return trip the sun was out and the roads mostly dry or damp. That is probably the last decent trip before the early spring. Most trips until then will be 300km or under.

If you'll allow me to catch up, been busy last couple weeks with upgrades/mods to my 2013 NC700X. Most of these were decided after reading other member posts so can't thank you all enough for posting your own product & riding experiences here. They were/are invaluable to me as a new NC700X owner/rider.

Early October, mounted center stand and tires that I got from @Denden996, thank you - they're all getting excellent use! Also changed out all bulbs for Auxito H4 LED (Amazon), Sylvania ZEVO LED's and CustomLED ELFR-1-H Flasher Relay (eBay), of course.

Last week, finally mounted the XPRite 2" 10W Cree LED lights (that previous owner included when I bought the bike) on the Denali Auxiliary Light Mount - spliced these into the headlight circuit since I replaced halogen (above), the current (rated) total of 42W (10Wx2, +22W) is still well below the 60W OEM halogen alone and the output is ridonculous.

Today I installed the Givi M7 plate on 1111FZ mount, all ready for the Trekker 52L Monokey Top Case arriving tomorrow.

Next up: fused Smart USB outlet with digital Voltmeter (Amazon) so I can properly charge my phone sitting on the RAM Mount.

Nothing. Today's weather stinks... under 40 degrees, a mixture of snow flurries and rain since I woke up. I am taking a day off of riding, 4th day I have voluntarily taken off since April 29.

I took th NC out yesterday on a little 70mi loop. Today the weather was threatening so I took the CFR250L out to get tacos. On the way back I decided that I was having too much fun and took the long way home adding another 40 miles to the 12 mile run to tacos.

I wasnt on my nc700x yesterday, but I was riding around Williston Florida and I saw a silver NC700x parked at bubbaques barbeque restaurant. Was it anyone on here? My nc700x is snoozing back up in Indiana at the moment...I was riding around on my little Kawasaki KLX 250 SF.

I went to prison............

...ate my lunch in the parking lot. Oh, and enjoyed a 180 mile ride. :D
I did The Triangle once in 30 degree weather with a dash across the plateau to take the Cherohala back to Robbinsville. Didn't see another motorcycle in 360 miles that day. 22F up on the Skyway.

Is the pavement still poor in many places?
Not as bad as it was several years ago. They have repaved most of it but there have been some slide-offs which is typical for this area. It is much improved.

A friend first showed me this route because his parents lived on Norris Lake. He called it the 'dam prison ride' because we would go by the Norris dam on our way to the prison. I did not care for it much back then (20 years ago) due to the poor pavement. It is much nicer now and has painted center lines.

I took mine for about a 300 mile ride. Very windy, heading into the wind 80mph with me in full tuck was all it would do. Still better than working!

Washed mine. Then I started poking around the bodywork with a view to commencing work to replace the shock. I started to get depressed at the work involved and gave up for another day. I hate this bloody bike sometimes
