It's happening! We're doing it! Had six bikes on a nice, but long ride today. Photo is taken on the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are 3 NCs in the photo.

No rain at all this whole week, but it's getting pretty warm during the daylight hours, cool at night. Can't complain. FF00AB92-3F9B-4D84-9D6C-F5CB5258A2EB.jpeg

Sorry I didnt post this yesterday... I made it safe and sound back home...even though it was my first time tent camping since I was 17 (now retirement age), it wasnt bad and I enjoyed myself...Tired each day after riding.... I think Robbie has a picture of all of us standing in front of our steeds....paging Robbie to the white phone....

I left the Smokies quite early Sunday and made it home for dinner. I had done six days of riding in the mountains, with great weather, no rain.

Our gathering was small, but even though some of us were lodging and camping in different locations, we managed to do rides together and even magically meet up out in the wild. I first found mwcogburn while just casually riding through the Deals Gap parking lot. On other days, the riding groups twice met up at lunch and break stops with precise timing even though there were no specific plans or times to do so.

It was really fun talking and riding with those in attendance. As always, I look forward to the next time!

I got up at 6:30 am and Greg was already gone! Made it home mid afternoon. I went through Gatlinburg. No delays to speak of. I had a great time tagging along. Looking forward to next year.

Kickstand's web site does not yet offer any details about the 2022 season. I emailed Mo, so I'll wait to see when or if they are opening Kickstand for 2022.

I would like that we could gather there the weekend before the Memorial day Weekend, as we had done in the past. If they aren't open then, then I suggest we gather the weekend after the Memorial Day weekend. The Iron Horse thing I tried in 2021 went badly for me, so I am not interested in doing anything further involving Iron Horse.

Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge in Stecoah? I stayed there once last year, really enjoyed it. Super nice place.

I can do the weekend before or the weekend after Memorial Day....If she is not open the weekend before, the weekend after Memorial Day will be good....whichever weekend it is, I plan on spending a few days before the weekend down there....like the whole week....

Yep, Iron Horse in Stecoah. In the past it was an OK place. I camped there several times. New owners took over a couple years back. Greed. Bad service. Higher prices. I'm never going back.

I can't blame the new owners. They have a monopoly on that exact type of venue in that immediate area. But, their resort concept and their policies are not my thing.

yep. Since I am a veteran, the veteran discount offset the price increase for me; however, I was disappointed in the food....overpriced and not very good. I was really disappointed in the prime rib meal...In the past, it was extremely good, cooked properly, fell apart with a fork...The prime rib I got was tough, mostly fat...wont go there again....Dont care they had improved wifi, never used it as I had cell service and used my own data plan.

If Mo and Bobby retire, the only other local venue that comes to mind is Fontana village and campground. The location and the campground are OK; not as nice as Kickstand but it could work for me. I know nothing about Fontana’s sticks and bricks lodging. Even if some people want to stay at Iron Horse, Fontana is not far away, with great riding between the two.

I’m open for other suggestions if anyone has some. Still awaiting a reply email from Mo or Bobby.

I have not yet received any email reply from Mo regarding their 2022 season. Their web site has not been updated for 2022. I’ll give it a little while longer and then we can start a new thread for a 2022 gathering, probably in mid May, with or without Kickstand Lodge.

Some of the guys on the NH forum (the originators of this event) got cabins in Fontana. They didn't like the cabins much, FWIW. Here is a what Tim says about Fontana in their ride report.

"We stayed at a cabin inside the Fontana Village. I don't think I would stay there again. The lodge is probably a pretty nice place, but the cabins were not great. They were poorly constructed and that led to insects and mice being able to get in. The cabins were clean, but those kinds of things made it feel dirty. There was no WiFi, no cell service, or even a phone to call the lodge or other cabins. However, the location was decent."

This was reported in June of 2020 (when most of country was in shutdown)....dont know who is running the place now....
