In another post I mentioned I was asking Seat Concepts to raise the seat material by 1". I reached out to them via email and received a response stating they cannot adjust seats and are limited by the molds they have available. Just letting everyone know in case this was an option they were considering as well.

That's a bit surprising. Thought I had seen posts from others saying that Seat Concepts was able to do that by adding some additional foam. Might have to remove them from my short list as I am hoping for a little more seat height when I finally do order a new seat.

I thought the same...that this was something SC could do. I still have the seat and cover on order. Here is their response.

Hey Mike,

Thank you for your email! We work off of foam molds and we do not have a mold for a taller foam. We apologize for any inconvenience caused, but we are not a true custom seat manufacturer so this isn't something we can help you out with.

Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
Mabel Morales

I have purchased two NC700X kits from Seat Concepts. The Seat Concepts NCX foam shape is taller than stock, and the foam by default is somewhat firm. With their standard kit, will get a taller seat than stock, especially at the front, and the forward slope is eliminated.

My first Seat Concepts attempt was in fact too tall, and wide at the front, for me, and the foam was too dense for my weight. After trying several other seats, I circled back to Seat Concepts and requested a lighter, custom foam density appropriate for my weight, which they can do. I then narrowed the front portion a bit and rounded off the thigh torture ridges to obtain my desired seat shape before I installed the cover. The result is my favorite NC seat out of the seven that I tried, and it’s a keeper.

I always assumed, but never asked, that the SC foam foam shape was fixed by their mold and not available in custom shape. If you think about it, if they made custom foam shapes, they’d have to sew up custom covers, too. I don’t think that fits their business model as they are not really a custom seat builder. I do think they offer a very good NC seat option for the least money.

Great feedback! Maybe I'll luck out with the lowered pegs and inevitably taller seat from Seat Concepts!

While Seat Concepts can't just adjust the shape/size/configuration of the seat foam, they can and have been more than happy to adjust the foam density. Any individual customer can shave away foam (for a lower height) or add some foam rubber sheet to add some height and do either/both to move the seat pocket a bit.

Below are comparison photos between the stock 2018 NC750X seat and the Seat Concepts on a 2012 NC700X. Note that the stock seat drops down lower behind the frunk, but the SC maintains the height straight back. This means the seat is a little taller and the forward slope is gone.

These are good comparison photos. I have the standard Seat Concepts seat, used on my 2013 and now my 2016 NC700X, and yes, it is significantly taller than the stock seat, and more comfortable as well. I enjoy the added height as I am 6'1" with 34-36" inseam depending on pants brand.

To clarifty for the OP. SC offers a standard and a low model, the low is more similar to the height of stock seat, while the standard is much taller, wider, and flatter - which, to me, is a good thing. My opinion only. I'm happy with my seat, no interest in trying any other seat.

I built and installed my Seat Concepts seat tonight, rider and pillion. I did not enjoy the process one bit. I am a very handy, patient, and competent DIYer. It was not physically difficult, but if you want it to be perfect, or close, it is a pain in the hindside. In retrospect, I should have sent it off to the company for the 25.00 install. It was not an enjoyable experience and tinkering is my favorite thing to do. I don't want that to discourage anyone from trying the product as it is likely worthwhile. The standard height does raise the seat by exactly one inch at installation. So that is an immediate and noticeable improvement to ergos for me. My risers arrived and they are necessary (for me) after the Seat Concepts install. The seat slope is reduced, almost completely, but not eliminated. It's hard to say without riding but the initial comfort is interesting. I'll give it 500-700 miles. If it's a no go, I'm just going to bite the bullet and order a Corbin, which I have loved on three other bikes.

Thanks for that advice. I am NOT a very handy, patient, or competent DIYer :) Glad that it rises the seat that inch. I'm 67 years old with a 34" inseam and feeling a bit cramp after riding a while. Look forward to your 500-700 mile review. Since you have to send off your seat thinking I'll wait until after riding season before switching.

Now that you have one done for practice, can I send you mine to redo :)? It is far from perfect and it bothers me every time I see it. I'll even pay $25 :)

Happy to report back! I have to say that I’m liking the idea of a Corbin, without bias. It will give a similar lift and also push us long legged riders back in the seat. We’ll see. But I do love Corbin. For me they make runs to the grocery store or trips to Gainesville both so much more enjoyable.

I’m always willing to give back to this community! I’ve learned a ton, saved money, and became a better and more informed rider because of others’ contributions here. I’ll be in Chicago soon if you want to trek on down. Happy to help. We sold the house in Oxford,WI otherwise I’d stop by and do it for you. I think you’re in Madison?

I’ve actually seen some good jokes too!

I was joking, but thank you for the kind offer. I am in Madison, yes. Let me know if you ever make it up this way.

I agree that it is great how people on this forum help each other out. Someone shipped me a perfect condition OEM muffler at cost after I crashed and messed mine up. I just mailed out a turn signal relay. It keeps getting passed forward.

It is great. How things used to be...neighborly in a way. In any case, open offer; happy to help!

Now I'm just waiting for a dry day to get out and try it. I took it for a brief run today. The increase in surface area makes a difference in feel for sure. I'll take a run out to Lake O this weekend.

So you're saying you have an abundant seat?

Today was the first day that I have had the time to put any real miles on the Seat Concepts saddle. I did 120 miles, 45 -75 MPH, stock suspension. 6' 02" ~230 Lbs. It substantially removed the forward slope issue that was presented by the OEM saddle. It was somewhat more comfortable than the OEM seat but nothing remarkable. Who knows? Maybe it will break in. I was able to ride longer than I could have with the OEM but similar discomfort eventually did set in. Obviously, most people really enjoy their Seat Concepts as it has good reviews and customer feedback. For me, initially at least, it's not that good. Anyhow, more miles to come and hopefully it breaks in. My Corbin seats were comfy from day one and improved over time; that is the frame of reference I am drawing from.

I have the Seat Concepts and in addition the seat slope raising mod.
I find that combo more than acceptable.
It sounds like we have similar body dimensions.
The slope mod using the 3D printing method is a very cheap and tidy experiment before laying out the-big bucks for a Corbin.
Worth a try?

100% worth a try for me. I love doing projects on motorcycles (any tinkering really). But I am unfamiliar with 3D printing (other than seeing it on some car shows I watch). Is there a link for the process?
