Question Soon-to-be Honda NC750X owner. I have a few questions.

I, by some miracle, stopped by a local Honda Powersports dealership near me and they had a 2022 Honda NC750X DCT on order that was supposed to arrive this month. I put in my deposit. I gave up ever finding this motorcycle and was about to buy a Kawasaki Versys X-300. Talk about lucky! I had called all over East TN trying to find this thing.

I did have a few questions, though.

What tires would be best for light off-road use? I live in the middle of the woods and have to traverse gravel and dirt. My old scooter I learned on last year (first bike - 2013 Yamaha Zuma 125) had 70/30 Road/Off-Road tires. They struggled a bit sometimes, but then again, 12-inch tires aren't known for their off-road ability. I think the 2022 NC750X comes with Metzeler Tourance NEXT tires and I am not sure if they meet my needs. 90% of my time is on the paved road, but that 10% off-road can be trying.

Are aftermarket low seats worth looking into? I know Seat Concepts makes one. I can almost flat-foot the bike with my motorcycle boots on (sat on a non-DCT last year).

I ordered a set of SW-Motech crash bars. Any other recommendations for aftermarket items? The crash bars from Honda didn't look very protective.

Thanks!
Hi Avarria, I also got lucky and was able to take possession of a 22 NC750X that came in to my local Honda dealer early! So far I love this motorcycle, it is just too mucn fun and can't beat the MPG. One note on the stock seat. I was out on a ride yesterday and as I threw my leg over the seat, I think a part of my boot brushed the gas tank flip lid. I didn't think much of it until I looked and saw I had cause a small rip in the material. The seat coating is very thin and almost looks like vinyl. Based on that experience, I will be looking for an aftermarket seat as well. I guess the stock seat was a cost-cutting measure by Honda.

Ah, unfortunately, these seem to only fit the older model NC750X. Which one is used for the 2021-2022 model?
Often times aftermarket accessory vendors do not stay up to date on motorcycle model year changes. If they don’t list compatibility for ‘21-22, it may be that the company simply didn’t bother to update their list or to verify compatibility. I don’t know if that is the case with hand guards, but it could be.

Yeah, the MPG is incredible. I primarily used my last bike as a commuter, but once I got out in the country, it just couldn't handle the speed and terrain. I have read conflicting stats, but I saw some show as much as 80 MPG. That's pretty incredible. My little 125cc scooter got 89 MPG, but it could only get to maybe 55 MPH on a good day and couldn't handle bad roads with those little 12-inch tires.

I still have mixed feelings on the seat It would be nice to flat-foot, but I worry it will mess up the geometry of the ride. I may just wait and see. I could always get taller boot inserts so I could get my foot down easier.

Ah, I should probably clarify. I have the SW-MOTECH crash bars. I wanted them on the bike before I ever rode it off the lot. They call their skid plate engine guards for some reason. Perhaps I misunderstood what was on their website, but it appears what they call their engine guard is just a skid plate. A very expensive one I might add :(. I just dunno if I need protection from roots, rocks, etc.
How “off road” are you planning on going? A skid plate is fine IF you are doing serious off road stuff, but for fire service roads and light off road not necessary. An NC (like most “ADV” machines is a heavy beast to wrestle in real off road conditions.). For mostly street use a center stand will give you a lot more use than a skid plate. A set of “crash bars” will basically serve to protect the plastic when (if) you drop the bike. You’ll quickly find a motorcycle with full size wheels to be a LOT more stable than a scooter with the binky wheels. Take is easy and learn your machine. The stock tires will work well for most anyplace you are going. After they wear out you could go with 80/20’s or similar IF you haven’t been happy with your street tires.

Nothing too extreme. I just want to ride on gravel and dirt roads out in the country. I would like to eventually go onto undeveloped trails and the like, but I will be doing that on a dirt bike. I don't want to have to pick up a nearly 500 lb bike all by myself out in the wilderness.

originally posted june 6.
do you have a firm delivery date or verified vin # for your nc ?
thanks
Not yet. I am honestly getting very frustrated. They told me it would be here "this week" when I put in my deposit and filled out the vehicle sale form. That was over a month ago. They said it should be here this month, but this month is running out.

thanks for the reply
kinda what i expected.
when i got home mid-may to my Newport (ri) home, i contacted all the new england dealers and found one that had a nc dct coming 2nd week of june that i got to be first on the list for. (bought a 2021 for my bonita springs home in nov 2021) since then chances of them getting the nc seems to be waning. called other New england dealers with pretty much same response.
good luck and keep us posted

Sure thing. Out of curiosity, I called them right after I replied to your last message. They said they expected it June 30th, but it could be sooner or later. Ugh.

In Late 2017 I was #1 on the request list at Roseville Honda Powersports for the all new NC. I had been waiting months and was a bit surprised when it finally came in in 2018. They called me one day about 4:30, said it would be ready for me in the morning (prep and all). I was pretty excited. I called in the morning to see if it was ready. I was told they were sorry, but one of their long-time customers had come in and seen it...bought it on the spot at 4:50pm (keep in mind that dalership would NOT take deposits. It was a first come, first served policy, and I had gotten follow-up calls by this dealership...being first on the list and all). They told me not to worry, they [should] be getting another 2 in within a couple weeks. I was so pissed, I went out and bought a Yamaha for spite (boy, I showed them...). My point is Big Red is like every other manufacturer, projections are usually wishful thinking and they are not beyond the shady practice of stringing a potential buyer along. BTW and despite being cheesed-off at Honda, I did eventually buy a new 2018...in 2021. It was a deep discount, new and still sitting on a dealer floor in Wa.

Lastly, it is a bike worth waiting for. You will be pleased with it as long as your local dealer doesn't fully bone you, i'm sure.

What I read in your post is that in 2017 the dealership was the problem not Big Red. Roseville Honda sold the first bike out from under you and American Honda had nothing to do with that. In the USA all Honda motorcycle dealers are franchises and unlike many other tightly controlled franchise businesses American Honda has relatively little to do with how the individual dealer runs his/her business. When I bought my 2012 I had talk the dealer into taking a deposit and waited for three months to get it. The dealer didn't want to take a deposit because they knew me very well but I was afraid of the same thing happening to me... that someone would step in front of me and offer the dealer a premium to get the bike first.

In 2017 and 2018 when a dealer's order window opened they placed the order for the next quarter and the units shipped pretty much on the ship date allowed by American Honda. Honda would not open the order window unless the units were in US warehouses, or enroute to the USA and actually on the water and also within the allocation of units allowed to that dealer. No stringing along by Big Red. When the units arrived in warehouses the dealers were notified of hard ship dates usually less than a week out. What the dealer did with those units was a separate transaction. I say this from the experience of working for a company that provided transportation from southeast USA warehouse to Honda dealers and I was in that Honda warehouse quite often then in 2017-2018 I worked for a large Honda motorcycle dealer.

The pandemic upended the reliability of Honda's supply chain and products have been extraordinarily delayed from Japan, through US entry points, to warehouses, and from warehouses but prior to 2020 it was like clockwork.

I started looking for a 2022 NC750X DCT in May, and found one coming in to a local dealer expected in June. I placed a deposit on it and am still waiting for it. I hope it doesn't take as long as some I've seen waiting. The dealer said is should arrive beginning of July. Keeping my fingers crossed.

please let us know when you get a firm delivery date or vin # on your NC.
that way at least we'll know when these things are actually being shipped in the US and give us all a little hope.
thank you

I just got an email from my dealer, and he said no way before the end of July. It looks like I will be winter riding or looking at next year's model.........:(

AAAAAAND....
That's commonly known as being "strung along". Starts with the manufacturer, siphons down to the dealer (wink, wink...nudge, nudge...say no more...) and gets passed on to potential buyers and even depositors. And practiced by ALL moto manufacturers in one form or another. Talk to any Ténéré 700 buyers if further clarification is needed.

Knowing this, waiting for an NC is worth it. Just stinks that your riding season is likely to be cut short. Hope you have another bike.

What nonsense. American Honda (this is Honda centric site, no?) wants to sell bikes, dealers want to sell bikes, and buyers want to buy bikes. In a market constrained by supply chain disruptions it makes no sense whatsoever for dealers to lie to buyers but it is human nature to want to tell people what they want to hear so they do not lose a potential sale. Based on the information available at the time it's still a best guess until the motorcycle is delivered to one of the 5 regional warehouses. Prior to the pandemic, firm delivery dates to buyers were based on ship sailings from Japan or other country of origin. Now it's much further along the supply chain, way down at the regional warehouse level.
