Two questions regarding the new NC750X

If I decide to buy a NC750X, I'm trying to figure out if I should get a new bike or a pre 2021 and had the following 2.5 questions.

1. Is it possible to add electronic cruise control to the Throttle By Wire?

My guess is, Honda lowered the seat height by lowering the suspension and that reduced the suspension travel and less ground clearance.
2. Is it possible to get the longer suspension travel back and get more ground clearance? If so I wonder how to do it, with 2020 components maybe springs?

Not that I plan to go down technical trails and need ground clearance, I am looking for more leg room with a bit taller seat height and more suspension travel for maybe a plusher ride.

Yes, 21-22 suspension travel was shortened, seat height is lower, and from that I'd have to say ground clearance is lower. But the rider triangle is basically unchanged from prior years. NC has a budget suspension in all model years so a plusher ride is going to take aftermarket mods no matter what.

Unless the 21-22 lower seat height is a must for you, I would recommend buying a pre '21 model.

If you'd care to share what the changes are, TCBronson can form an opinion as to whether they are suitable or unsuitable. You got beat up in the past because you talked about "at least 10 significant improvements" but you would never specify what they were.


It is because of the changes that I recommended a pre '21. YMMV. Negatives for '21-'22 are loss of tank bag mount slots, less suspension travel and ground clearance, subjectively uglier style/less coloring, overly complex display, low product availability.
 
Changes to the 2021 include a new frame, lighter weight, more horsepower, more torque, higher redline, revised gearbox ratios, Throttle By Wire management, with 3 riding modes incl one that is owner adjustable, and expanded Honda Selectable Torque Control, new instruments, a larger frunk, a larger windscreen, dual bending valve forks front suspension, all around LED lighting, and standard ABS

I agree about the overly complicated display, and lament not being able to mount a tank bag.

Not sure all of the changes could be deemed significant and some could be deemed detrimental to a tall person or one with off road aspirations, but the lowered seat height with suspension changes are what made it possible for this munchkin to own one.

I'm not going to spend an hour finding the many improvements on the later ones that I have already researched completely, just to have others oppose everything I come up with. I'm not a fan of outdated technology and the later ones are much nicer looking in my view also. This gets back to; "to each their own" and that's fine that you like the older models but I would be dreaming about a later model the whole time I was on one. I am 6'1" but I need the lower seat because my old legs don't want to stretch as much anymore, and I don't like tank bags anyway, plus I have no use for long travel suspensions. I found more changes than Ferret came up with but again; I'm not going to argue about it, and I was never "beat up".

maybe to some, the changes are insignificant, but to me, taken collectively, the sum of all the "insignificant changes" are significant and appealed to me enough to purchase a 2021.
i had a previous year purchase option at a good price but chose to go with the 21.
like it so much i'm looking to purchase a 2022 for my other home. (who knows when we'll see them ?)

Suggest you ride a 20 and a newer model and see what YOU think. . The newer one is lower, rider triangle very similar. I know the newer bike has “more” power, but frankly I see Very little difference performance wise. Both are, as the Rolls salesmen used to say “adequate. Neither is by any means a fast bike. They are a Very well rounded “do it all” bike, not the best at anything, but pretty darn nice to live with.
 
The nice thing is no matter what year you buy you can always alter the ergos for your comfort. I dropped my 12 model with adj. links in the rear, about 1 inch. lowered the forks 15mm in the clamps. Aftermarket pegs about 1/2 in. lower and had my seat done with 2in of foam with no slope. I am 6'4" and had no problem with flat footing before anything was done. But lowering the ride height made a great improvement to a already great handling bike.

Yup. I’m just a few weeks shy of my 10 year NC ownership anniversary. I’m glad I discovered and bought it at it’s introduction, and have enjoyed it for so many years.

There is a lot of information on this forum that can be difficult to aggregate. Most here recognize that and are happy to contribute. But if you start an oil thread, your name is mud. You've been warned. (that's tongue in cheek)

Hi McCruise are developing an electronic cruise control for the 2021 model and already have one for the 2020 model. Quite expensive Australian dollars 1165.00 but possible to fit if comfortable with electrics. I read the fitting instructions not too difficult looms included. Worth looking at. The other throttle stop types not sure I would like on my DCT. I had thought about fitting one but the ride by wire is so light I haven’t felt the need to fit it. I have travelled up to about 430 km in a day not sure if that compares with your daily mileage? I have put 5000 km on mine in a year on Irish roads which are a mix of motorway and twisty bumpy potholed hilly roads and the suspension is way better than my CB 500x. SW-Motech make very adjustable footrests which might also help. I decided on the 2021 because it had traction control, modes and lower seat height as I’m senior and 30” leg.

I prefer my 2020 DCT's looks and the price I bought it for left room to make it comfortable for me. But here are the changes from the 2021 other than colors (The US gets red).
 
I found some suspension links that were shorter, which raises the bike, but I can't find anyone that makes them in the US. The ones that lower the bike are plentiful.
