In my opinion, it depends. If you are trying to maximize conspicuity you are supposed to create a triangle. I think I posted the study here on the forum supporting that fact. Illuminating the road to improve your night driving may require mounting in a different location and depends on the lights you have, whether or not they are dimmable, etc. (but conspicuity is still improved in these conditions but may not maximize daytime conspicuity).

This NIH study aggregation covers the triangle scenario and probably references the individual paper I referenced. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8213631/

To create a large triangle I mounted mine near the front axle. I want to be seen. I can control my riding speed but I can't control others. I want them to SEE me.

The more conspicuous I am the better.

Denali wide angle running lights are the best I found. Have them on 2 bikes.

So I can mount them on the crash guards to form that wide triangle???

We were traveling in Newfoundland this past summer and saw a trio of riders with lower fork mounted daytime running lights. They were very noticeable. In fact the one rider with the flashing version was distracting.

Interesting that they had flashing lights, that is, to my understanding, illegal in many areas. Mine have a HI/LOW setting. I have them set to HI all the time. They turn on when I start the bike, wired into the headlamp circuit.

I've written and posted photos before. But the Denali DRL lights each have 6 LED bulbs with what looks like a fresnel type lens that makes a 180-degree spread of light from side to side and up to down. So not focused. Does not illuminate the road, but does a great job of lighting up the front wheel if you are coming toward me from a cross street. And from any angle more forward of the bike you can't help but see these lights because of the wide beam spread both vertical and horizontal.

I've toyed with adding LEDs to the mirrors, but I think adding Barkbuster hand guards for the sole purpose of adding LED lights to those would be a much cleaner installation.

Modulating headlight is legal in all 50 states. Modulating accessory lights are not.
To the OP, pic is of my added lights........
I probably was not clear, but I presumed that the annoying flashing lights in the prior post were added accessory lights not the main headlamp. Or maybe I just misunderstood that post.

It's worth mentioning that while USA modulating light legality be as it may, the previously reported flashing light event took place in Canada, and the OP asking about accessory lights is from Uganda.

Yes, a very popular and conspicuous location. I can’t speak to the legality of auxiliary lighting displays in your country but many riders do this in the USA. I have a set of Denali lights on the Honda accessory light bar on my 2013 and on a previous NC700X I mounted similar lighting on Hepco & Becker crash bars. Name brands like Clearwaters or Denalis are nice but there are many 2 to 3 inch LED lights available on Amazon that do an excellent job increasing conspicuity. You might have to determine the diameter of the crash bar tubing before buying mounting hardware to fit.

In Uganda it’s not clear but many riders have them more so those with 250cc and above and are usually not disturbed by traffic police

Sure. There were two configurations . One was called a human triangle where the apex of the triangle was toward the road and lights were mounted near the handlebars as well. I think that was most effective. The other was with the apex of the triangle being the central headlights. Both work according the studies. Take alook at Skene Photon Blasters too. Amazing little lights to add if you are concerned about being seen.; inexpensive and super easy to install.

Visit your local Walmart auto department --wide variety of inexpensive and very bright LED lights available easy to mount on the crashbars with Amazon mounting clamps and wire to a Thunderbox---probably do the whole job for about $100

Interesting advice, assuming you are addressing the OP. I wasn’t sure if they had local Walmarts in Uganda, and I thought that their currency was shillings, not dollars

I guess this is what they call the internet rabbit hole. I had to know for some reason, and I don't even shop there. Walmart bought out a large retailer in Africa. No word on motorcycle auxiliary lights though.
