So I ordered the Delkevic Exhaust 17" Tri-Oval Stainless Steel for the NC. Most of my mods/farkles are practical, except this one. This one addressed something that annoys me about the stock NC and that is the stock exhaust. So this was purely cosmetic. I was hoping to get a just a little deeper sounding tone to the exhaust without being loud and annoying.

So I had to mess with the stock exhaust tonight to work on brake pedal adjustment so I used it as an excuse to install the exhaust. I will probably regret that as I have to tear it all apart again soon to install the hugger fender it appears. So I may end up undoing what I just did. I will cross that bridge as I get more time to install mods that are sitting here waiting on me to get time to do it.

The Delkevic exhaust actually does look nice. I was concerned it might be cheaply made or poorly done given the cost of the product. But it showed up and looked pretty good. My concern then immediately turns to the angle and length of the exhaust and if it is going to interfere with the Kappa/Givi bags. Well the bags have not arrived yet. They are scheduled to arrive on Thursday and I won't have time to look at the bike for a couple of weeks. So that part is still an unknown.

The exhaust mounted up fine. Only issues were my own, and nothing to do with the product. I got it mounted, and started up the bike... And, and... Well gosh it was about like listening to the stock exhaust! LOL All that build up to something that sounds about like the stock exhaust. It is a little deeper sounding, and little throatier. Not any louder than stock at idle from what I can tell. Little bit of revs and still not a lot too it. So I took it for a short spin to see if my pedals and shifter where in the right place for riding, and to listen to the exhaust and you can hear it a little, not much really. Get up to speed with the wind noise and you can't hear anything.

I haven't tried removing the baffle. What it does tell me is that I watched a lot of YouTube videos on this exhaust and people must be putting the phone or camera down next to the exhaust in order to get the sound they recorded out of it. From a normal listening distance this exhaust with the baffle in is VERY VERY tame.

I wasn't sure how I would like the exhaust size, or the Tri-Oval design, but I think it is OK. It seems to fit the space nicely over the rear wheel. So now I just have to wait and see what happens when I try to mount my bags. Here are some quick pics of the exhaust.

Overall my initial impressions are good. I won't know until I get the Madstad installed tomorrow and take it for another spin to see how that affects the noise levels and my impressions. I will follow up with more once I do that. I think I should have some time tomorrow to mess with the windshield.

For some reason the forum has flipped the pictures sideways and upside down. Any way for me to flip them? Thanks.

For photos using iPhone - always have the volume control buttons pointed at the ground and always shoot in Landscape. I have no idea why this software does this - never seen it elsewhere.

Before uploading any photo to a posting, I always use an edit function and rotate it 90 degrees once, save, then rotate 270, and save it again. Since making this my routine, I haven't been to OZ since.

Well i managed to get the Madstad on the bike today... It wasn't "uneventful" and I am sure the Madstad peoples ears are burning... I think I invented some new words in the process. Anyway, I think the windshield helped the wind noise levels a little. It is very breezy here today so kind of hard to tell what it sounds like. When the wind was coming from behind me I could hear the exhaust and it sounded pretty good. So I need a less windy day to get a better idea what it sounds like. I also don't think I have the Madstad dialed in for this bike yet. Windshield may be a little too short, but time will tell soon enough.

I will try to record the sound of the exhaust when the wind dies down. I don't know if you will be able to tell what it sounds like that way or not. I know the sound vids I watched on YouTube didn't really sound the way this sounds to me. It is deeper and throatier than stock which is what I was looking for. Not too loud with the baffle in. From what I can hear so far it won't drive me bonkers on the highway or on a trip.

I am toying with taking the baffle out just to hear what it sounds like. I will wait for the wind to die down before trying that. Unfortunately I am going to be tied up for the next couple of weeks and probably won't get a chance to circle back around to the bike. But I can certainly record something from the exhaust so you can hear it.

Ok, so the elephant in the room since I bought and installed this exhaust was will it fit with my Kappa K33N bags which is a slightly smaller bag than the Givi V35 bags. So I finally got the bags installed on the bike today and I can say I was worried for nothing.

The 17" exhaust clears the bottom of the bags by several inches and is far enough back at that point that I seriously doubt that there will be any heat or interference problems even sitting in stop and go traffic and heat rising off the exhaust. I could have gone with the 18" Delkevic exhause it appears and not had any problems with these bags.

We have horrible weather here today so no way to get the bike out to take some pictures. I will do that as soon as possible. So if you are thinking about the Delkevic 17" tri oval exhaust or even the larger 18" exhaust and you have the Givi V35 or the Kappa K33N bags it appears you will not have any problems at all with the bag clearance with this exhaust.

Here are some pictures of the exhaust clearance and the Kappa/Givi bags:

I bought the 13" tri SS for my bike. I had one on a different bike and I liked how it sounded. I did some research and chose the 13" becasue I wanted a little more sound than the longer version would offer. I run mine w/o the baffle. I have noticed that after two seasons, the muffler "breaks in" and has better sound. (Not sure if that makes sense) But it's a good muffler for the price.

Hi all, because of this thread, I have decided on the same exhaust. I love the shorty look however I did not want to run a silencer because of the exhaust restriction. Here is my YouTube video of the sound comparison. Enjoy!

Any performance or fuel economy improvement?
Love the sound!
I don't know because I only rode it once before installing the can and I don't keep track of fuel consumption.
But it does sound good when accelerating hard from 2500 rpm on up.
That low frequency bark when on the throttle makes it sound more powerful than the stock sewing machine hum, but without any objective data I have no idea.
