I've had maybe 3 weights break at the same weak point over the years They are a hassle to replace.
These weights are under continuous loading from the oscillation they endure and the (needed) bar end weight drives this failure.
A little higher quality steel would probably solve this. The number of failures across the industry are probably quite high. The L/H weight on my NC is toast.

We have talked about the weights prior on their function, removal, leaving them out and adding additional weight.

Breaking or broken weights................That’s a new one for the forum ?

My 'hassle' was on a CB900F 30+ years ago, long before utube/internet forums, but I'm still 29 yrs of age.
Unlock the tab in the #30 bar hole, thread the screw into the remainder of the weight and pull out.............simple, right?

Broken handlebar weights. Huh. That’s the first I’ve heard of it, on any motorcycle.

The trick is the locking tabs and there are two per weight, 180 degrees from each other. On the clutch side I warm the end of the grip and roll it to expose the tabs. Depress the tabs, rotate weights and pull gently to not break the tabs. On the throttle side, remove the kill switch and loosen the throttle connection to the bars so it can slide inwards to expose the tabs under the throttle tube. Removal is the same with rotation and gently pulling.

Think the theory ........”weights are under continuous loading from the oscillation they endure and the (needed) bar end weight drives this failure.”

is serious flawe’d.

The NC's method for attaching bar end weights is crap anyway. Look how various companies do their inserts for bar end weights – often with rubber compression approach like pipe test plugs, or like the inserts that come with aluminum handguards... Rubber is not a bad way to go if the insert can really compress the fitting because that damps vibrations just about as much as adding weight does. Don't sucker out for blingy anodized aluminum end weights BTW; aluminum is all-too-efficient at conducting vibration/resonance.

First thought:

6 mm bolt with thread lock torque value 7 ftlbs
Not sure what you're getting at but it appears the screw probably stopped before entering the unmilled section........thus breaking at the end of the screw.
IMO if the screw had entered the heavier portion of the weight the break area would have been in effect strengthened.

Anyway, revzilla has it at a good price w/free ship $12.51 delivered.

Yes. Crosstip phillips.
Never seen that before. It is a phillips head so it would be hard to over torque. I wish all repairs were $12 :)
It's a 2.5" Phillips. The weight is threaded .70 " deeper than the end of the milled section.
If the screw was 3" long I believe the weight would never break.
I may contact Honda Powersports and offer my experience w/these bar weights and what I believe
would prevent the failures I've experienced over the years. None of these bikes had a bar end impact.

Honda uses JIS fasteners, not Phillips. Honda might point that out to you if they bother a reply.

Since "over the years" is now in use as subjective evidence, I submit that in 50 years and close to 300,000 miles on Hondas I've never had a bar weight break off or suffer from blingy ineffectiveness.

WOW! Chill out man.
JIS or Phillips is irrelevant. FYI I 've got you beat on both your #ers, but whose counting.? Blingy ineffectiveness? Let's keep this friendly.
I got on the Honda Powersports site w/a pic, screw/weight parts numbers and my suggestion. There is a case # assigned. Stay safe out there.

I got the new weight but didn't unhook the lock tabs on the ring, 53108-KR3-770 when I pulled it out of the handlebar.
I couldn't figure out where those 2 tabs went on the old ring........then I realized, they both broke off. $4.82 delivered, Revzilla.
Sorry for being a little harsh dduelin but these bar weights and I have some history.

+1 for dduelin. I have owned lots of different Honda street bikes and have never broken the threaded insert inside the handlebar.
