I have only had my DCT for a couple of weeks. I would like some advice regarding the gear change. I engage drive and can change to sport by holding the button, but then I struggle to get s2 and s3 but when I manage it how do I get back? Anyone got any tips

Do you have an owner’s manual? It should describe the operation of the DCT controls.

There are 3 sport modes. Each one with different shift points, each mode holds the gear longer. Whichever sport mode you were in last, it remembers, one bar, two bar or three bars. To switch between the sport modes, you have to select sport mode first, then hold the select button for 2-3 seconds to switch between the 3 difference sport modes, incrementally. See page 67 of your owner's manual.

Get back to Drive by pushing the N side of the switch. I think you have to be stopped with 0 throttle. Or at stoplight or sign put it in neutral then go back to drive. I don't think you can switch between modes while moving.

Honestly I leave mine in sport 3 all the time. It just holds gears a little longer. Still get 63 mpg. Most of my riding is in the city. Lots of stoplights. The DCT seems very throttle sensing if your just putting around town the sport modes really don't make much difference unless you really get into the throttle. Just my opinion of my 2020. The only thing I don't like about the DCT is it always wants to be 1 gear higher than I would like.
I like to always be in the low end of the power band.

This is my experience as well, can't change sport modes unless stopped completely.

I haven't messed with the sport modes too much on my new bike (2016 NC700X), but it seems like S1 is my preference. Seems to shift where I would normally shift under regular driving conditions.

I am not a DCT owner, but I have test ridden all Honda DCT motorcycles. On my test rides with some DCT Honda motorcycles, I remember being able to change sport modes while riding, but it was simply necessary to close the throttle to do so. Does this apply to the generation 3 DCT on the NC series?

Ok so tested this on my way to work today and 670cc is right. You can switch between sport modes while moving throttle closed. Just hold switch to the left for a couple of seconds. As far as getting back to Drive the only way I could on my 2020 was to be stopped and go back to neutral then into drive.

The owners manual describes how to change S modes, and mentions closing the throttle. It also describes how to get back to D mode.

Thanks for all the help and information. I have not had the bike for long but it will obviously become second nature.
I have also done a reset on the DCT.
I posted the thread to try to get any easier methods that people have worked out for themselves.

I played around with the sport modes a lot when I first got the bike. Now I only use the MT mode.

What year is the bike? I thought the earlier versions only had one sport mode, but I may be wrong since I have an X and not a dct...

They are both X's, one is just manual and one a dct :D .

To my knowledge, the extra sport mode options came out in 2016 when they changed body style. In the U.S. anyways...not sure on when it hit the European market, as they seem to get more of things and get them earlier than us sometimes.

I often change modes from 'sport' to economy 'drive' or vice versa while rolling as 670cc posted. Generally I do it when I get within/ out of hearing range of home.

I tend to spend most of my time in D. Even with 60 mpg I still don't like being inefficient; plus our gas here is $3.45/ gallon.
I switch to S1 mode when splitting lanes in tight traffic, or if I am on a very twisty road, especially if going uphill.

In D there is one time where I go into Manual mode. I leave a stop sign, going slightly uphill, then have to make a slow right turn as it gets steep. If I leave it in D my bike will bog down, as it will have upshifted into 5th so soon after leaving the stop. I don't want to have to go into S mode, then have to get out of it, so manual mode gets me precise gear selection for that turn, which I take in 3rd, upshifting to 4th if there's no cagers slowing things down after the turn.
I don't just flick the minus switch, because my bike doesn't seem to stay in that lower gear long enough. I guess it figures it's in D, it wants to get me out of 3rd ASAP?

I also own a Hyundai Elantra Gt Sport, which has DCT. When I am in automatic and downshift with the paddles, to select a gear on my own, it will stay in that temporary manual mode for much longer than the Honda's DCT.
