Low gas warning

Hello everyone,

Can anyone tell me if a low gas light comes on, or the single / remaining bar on the gas gauge begin blinking or something like that, telling you that you are very low on gas? I've ridden along to the nearest gas station when I am down to the last bar, but I've always wondered if there is any visual cue, other than noticing that your bike is no longer running because you've run out of gas!

Thanks and have a pleasant weekend.

On the 2016 the gauge goes to one bar steady, then to one bar flashing. The 'A' trip meter also resets at flashing to start counting the distance travelled on reserve. For my bike the trip averages about 130 miles (210 kms) from fill up to one bar (recorded at the gas station) and roughly 50 more miles (80 kms) to one bar flashing.

on my 2015 ... it's the goofiest low fuel warning system ever. The last bar starts flashing, and the fuel indicator goes to "0.0" and starts counting UP to 0.8 - which is the gallons left once you hit the last bar. Why it doesn't count DOWN is beyond all understanding (and why there's no "distance to empty" provided).

It would help if you specified the model year of the bike in question. The dash display design has changed over the years. I could tell you exactly how a 2012 fuel level display works, but that may be if no help to you.

On my 2020 NC750XDCT the fuel gauge flashes until you fill up. I think it starts after the last white bar disappears.
any idea how many miles you have left when it starts to flash?

On my 2012 and 2015 I used .8 gallon remaining when the low fuel started flashing and this was conservative. I averaged about 60+ mpg so it's a math problem.

.8 x 60 = for me about 50 miles range on reserve at 55-60 mph. If I could slow to 50 mph or less it was further. To find out on your own bike let it run down to flashing then fill it up. It should take about 2.7 gallons leaving 1 gallon reserve.

I have a short video of low fuel warning on my 2020 Nc750xdct but can not upload it.
Seems mp4 is not an allowed format. Mpg flashes fuel gauge flashes trip odometer flashes.

Just a late note. The indication when on reserve I find very confusing and it irritates me not having the trip counter on-screen. Therefor I look for a refueling stop when the bottom fuel bar starts flashing. By that time it's usually a good time for a break anyway (around 320 kms / 200 mls).

I do too. I don't know who at Honda thought it a good idea to have the reserve indicator count up in fuel consumption instead of down. If the reserve kicks on at .8 gal left, start there and go down to zero...don't start at zero and count up.

Furthermore, during the first litre / quarter gallon reserve fuel, the trip counter comes back when riding straight up with constant speed and disappears again when tilting the bike during slower cornering. This process repeats many times and drives me crazy.
Maybe this annoying thing is absent on newer models (2016 and up)?

@rpvanoyen I am not sure I understand what you are saying. If it has a .8 gallon reserve, are you saying that when the reserve indicator shows .1 and .2, the trip counter (trip A or B?) disappears when cornering but then reappears when you are fully upright, then when the reserve indicator is at .3, .4, .5, .6 the trip counter (trip A or B?) doesn't disappear when cornering?

He means the fuel level sensor is not adequately damped. The fuel gauge goes into reserve mode during cornering or braking then goes away during straight-ahead riding or vice versa.
