Very sad to report that I've not ridden for the last couple of weeks. Honestly I'm afraid to ride. I'm 62 and outwardly look pretty damn healthy. I coach Olympic style saber fencing at 2 universities, 2 high schools and a private club. People assume I'm healthy, strong and coordinated. But I also have Rheumatoid Arthritis and for the last few weeks I've been in a serious flare up. Taking some really strong medications and opioids (under doctors orders and supervision) and I'm still in pain. For the past couple of weeks I don't feel that I am in control of my body enough to ride. Sometime not even to drive a car. It really sucks. Spent the morning with the doctor and getting a whole slew of new tests. Meds altered. Hoping for relief. When I'm fine I'm actually darn good. When I'm not I dare not ride, or drive.

Sorry to hear :(. Hope you get some much needed relief and that you can get some miles in soon!

I was looking at those.
I have only heard them on YouTube videos.
I had one on my Honda Silverwing 600.
I tried running it without the dB Killer, but it was way too loud and barky.
Is yours model # 14189E by any chance?
Running it with or without dB Killer?

Mine is the SBK LV1 with the baffle IN. I bought it from a brother here and he said it's very hard to get back in so l tried it first "in" and the sound is perfect. Sounds great and not too loud. Definitely not a "loud pipes save lives" with the baffle. I love it. It sounds to me like a Harley and a Speed Triple had a baby.

I am very sorry to hear you are going through that. I have no idea how challenging that must be. But i have to say, if we were to judge by the tone and tenor of your posts that you have a great spirit and attitude despite your condition. Hoping the positivity and outlook you show here helps you to better manage things there in the real world behind the keyboard! Get better soon!

So sorry to hear that, brother. My mom had RA, worst in her hands, and I know what a negative effect it had on her. Awful. I hope they can jigger your meds to get you back on course. And on the bike.

I have AS myself so I can kind of sympathize. It affects me in my finger joints, iritis in my eyes, and of course lower spine, which is ground zero for AS. But it's a minor annoyance compared to RA. I pray and I'll pray for you. I still haven't won the lottery yet so I can't speak to the effectiveness.

So sorry to hear.
My sister-in-law has the same.
She is managing very well, and her doctor is "amazing".
So there is lots of hope.
She has to be very careful with infections, recently got her 2nd covid booster, but just tested positive for covid on Saturday.
So far her symptoms have been quite tolerable.
So be extra cautious.
Good luck!

Hi, long time no see, everyone. Sorry I have been AWOL from this forum for a while. Winter here was colder than usual, and even though we don’t get much snow, motivation was low and money was tight.

Two days ago, I took a spur of the moment overnight trip from Yokohama down to Shimoda at the bottom tip of the Izu Peninsula. Sunday, so hotels were pretty cheap. Stellar roads and weather there and back. Came back through western Izu, cut across east to the Izu Skyline (first time on that road, it’s gorgeous), then home. About 350km total.

Some of the coastline is otherworldly. When I first came to Japan almost 7 years ago, sometimes things felt so strange I’d look up and the sky and half-expect to see 3 moons. Seeing the Izu coastline for the first time brought back a little of that 'where the heck am I?' feeling.

Shimoda is apparently where Commodore Perry first landed, and I had (luckily!) just missed the annual Black Ships Festival . . . which I only realized after I saw the Japanese and U.S. flags both lining the streets. Maybe another time—this trip the goal was to avoid people.

The last 2 images are of my dash cam install (or as they're called here, a "drive recorder") a couple of weeks ago. It's a Mitsuba model, I don't know if they are sold overseas. My install will need to be revisited, because tucking the main recording unit under the right panel means accessing the SD card will be pretty much impossible. I will probably end up drilling a hole and velcro-ing it inside the frunk. Otherwise, it seems to be working and that gives me a little extra peace of mind.

(And yes, I've since washed the bike, I was alarmed to see in these photos how filthy it'd gotten.)

The bike continues to treat me well. It looks like I’m averaging >70mpg without paying too much attention. Since October 2020 I’ve only just put 8000km on the odometer, hopefully this summer will see a steep increase in mileage (or kilometerage, I guess). Over and out.

I hate to hear this. Those of us with our health might take it for granted until things change. I hope a new treatment plan gives you some relief.

Nice scenic views there. Not sure if these would work with but Instead of moving the whole dash cam unit, maybe an extension type adapter could allow you to leave the unit where it is but make the card easier to access and not eat up frunk space.

A chap I know has this. Hes had it from his late twenties (now 71 like me) and like Yourself he has good periods and bad. Exercise (on a bicycle) helps him cope but occasionally he has to go into respite to get a break from it. Hopefully You will pull out of this soon.

Wow, thanks, that's the first time I've seen something like an SD card 'extension cord.' I'll look into that. My only concern might be adding more connections and more complexity to a thing that I'm counting on to just work. It's great to know that's an option, though!

I was diagnosed at age 26. Taking pain meds quicker now and it’s helping, but can’t ride while on the pain meds. So I’m feeling somewhat better physically but still not going to be riding until this flare up backs off (could be a day to a month) or until I get the new meds approved and they kick in (2 - 4 months). Hoping the flare up ends and normal life begins again. The pain meds don’t really fog my brain but do slow reflexes so the quickest way back on a bike is if this flare up ends.

I got the Hyperpro shock installed last night. I would have had it done the night before, but I could not find the universal joints for any of my socket drivers. I made a donation to Habitat when I moved and I think a "keep" box or two went with it. With the u-joint adapter it was a piece of cake to install. I like having a remote preload adjuster again, which mounts to the exhaust hanger and does not interfere with the OEM luggage (I was concerned). I lubed up all of the needle bearings while I was at it. I'm hoping my fork oil arrives today and I'll do the front with the YSS kit.

I also installed 2" Rox anti-vibration risers. The little vibration that is present did not bother me, but I've received so many gift cards from Revzilla over the years I decided to give them a shot. I did remove the master cylinder, brake handle, and mirror then fed the cylinder behind the forks instead of the front. Without doing that, I was uncomfortable with the tension on the brake line. There is still very minor pressure on the parking brake cable at full left, which is not a terrible concern. That said, I am going to order the CTX' parking brake cable to resolve (TY @670cc ). Not a rush and is more out being prudent than a necessity in this installation on this bike (others here reported no concerns). All of the other cables fit fine.

I also popped on the ELF1-H electronic flasher relay. I think it was @670cc or @dduelin (someone on the forum) who said the electronic flashers eliminate the ability to use the hazard flashers while the bike is turned off. That is the outcome I have too; no hazards while the ignition is off.

I did not test out the shock and risers as I finished late, and the plastics are still off.

Could you post a picture of the preload adjuster and how it is hung?

Mounted a few footman loops on my top case, put 2 ultra light fishing rods on and went fishing. Caught one of the largest rainbow trout I have ever seen, but no photos, so it was just a fish story or lie, or both.

Sure. I’ve also included a picture of stock shock next to the Hyperpro. I don’t know what conclusions can be drawn by comparing form factors, but it seems to be a pretty common practice to share (still studying suspension…not enough knowledge). I put the adjuster on a slight angle for just a bit more clearance from the bottom of the right pannier.
