I swear the less I jack with the chain the longer they last. I leave mine fairly loose and I really don't measure the slack. I take a wrench and lift the bottom of the chain toward the swing arm, if it hits the swing arm I tighten it until has about an inch of clearance. Then I ride it for a...
I enjoyed reading this because it shows how different two riders situations can be. I haven't spent any time trying to determine my numbers but a rough guesstimate would put me much lower. Compared to others, I neglect my bike and this thing just keeps going. I've been through several sets of...
I've been away from the forum for quite so just now reading your post. Glad you figured this out. I started a similar thread over a year ago and our bikes had similar symptoms but not quite the same. I basically did what you did and replaced several parts which never fixed the issue. Then one...
This is how I look at the NC700X for long rides. We go to Orlando every summer for an annual trip to Disney. Most of the time we rent a Town & Country for 6 people but last year they did not have a van and I got a 2018 Ford Expedition. Both make the trip easily but that Expedition was a heck...
I have had my NC since 2013 and use it solely for commuting. I agree with MZ5 that the OEM are probably the most narrow. In 6 years, I have never had my panniers or top box off the bike. FWIW, I"m an old man and the top box really does not get in the way of swinging my leg over. I have never hit...
You probably don't need one but your doing so much maintenance you might as well change the air filter too. Mine was pretty dirty at 50K. Has yours ever been changed? To me, the air filter is an easy swap but I've had mine out 10 times in under 3 months.
An update for those that were watching this thread. The NC has decided to start running better all by itself. About two weeks ago, I started the bike in the parking lot and was headed for home. The on-ramp to the interstate is uphill so it requires a little more throttle than level ground and...
Welcome to the forum. I bought my bike about 6 years ago on a whim and rarely keep a bike over 3 years. This bike is so good for communing that I have not let her go regardless of some shortcomings. Good luck on the deal.
No need for a block of wood on the NC. The tires can be removed easily without doing that. I wouldn't take both off at one time while on the center stand but you can and I have. Just not real safe unless you have ratchet strapped the center stand in a way it cannot collapse.
I am in the same boat as 670cc. I changed my front sprocket the first time around 35,000 miles. I honestly thought I had probably pushed it too far until I compared the new with the old and I didn't see much difference. I feel it could have easily stay on longer so in my opinion you have a long...
I'd like to clarify something. I decided to investigate another avenue. I read a couple post from a few years ago where guys had a cam chain tensioner spring break. I decided to recheck my timing marks. On page 3-10 of the manual it says to make sure the "1" mark is aligned with the "lower"...
Congrats on the purchase. Mine has gently seen the ground 3 times so it happens. Loose gravel, wet surface, or just not paying attention will get you every time. LOL. Hope you enjoy the bike.
