LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES mentality -vs- A.T.G.A.T.T. mentality

Cagers, like most humans, draw upon their memories to determine what might happen in the future... There are 2 types of riders that they tend to remember, the idiots (be it loud and obnoxious, or triple digit wheels down the highway) and the ones that they nearly kill. The riders that present...

Alright lets vote! Not political lol!

Most important? A warm house to stay in when it gets cold. I'm in MN, I stop riding when the over night lows get below freezing. I don't want to run into ice on a bridge. But winter in only 9 months of the year.... I don't know which is most important, but I've got bark buster storms, a mad...

    Went camping, need new tires

Picture of the stand packed down, in my top box (snug on both sides) along with my camp kitchen, which I realized looking at the photo now I should be pushing for product placement money from these places... nearly everything has the label facing the camera.

    Went camping, need new tires

It's a Tensa 4. https://www.tensaoutdoor.com/product/tensa4-hammock-stand/ It's about 20 inches by 5-6" around when packed, fits in the givi trekker 52l right across the widest part (towards the front of the bike.) They say it only needs one stake (ground screw) to work, particularly if you...

    Went camping, need new tires

Gravel is my biggest concern with the road 5... but i figure I'm off of pavement less than 1% of the miles I ride (mostly to and from camp sites) so probably not a big deal (right?!?!), even those roads are usually decently well groomed/packed, and I tend to take those roads slow anyhow...

    Went camping, need new tires

I've cleaned it out a dozen times, it works better after, but it's still not able to hold the cable in while riding. The plastic around the port is cracked a bit too so I think it's just not quiet right.

    Went camping, need new tires

I got a new hammock stand, fits neatly in my top box. Took it out for a trip to northern WI to give it a test run for a few nights. Got to the campsite, and learned that the external battery I brought wouldn't charge my phone, can't charge it while riding cause the port on my phone is...

Carbon emissions (how much C comes out of the tailpipe) is different from "pollutants". Every gallon of gasoline contains 5.5 lbs of carbon (out of 6.3 lbs total) so every gallon burned is 5.5 lbs of carbon released.... mostly as CO2, some of it as CO and maybe some of it as a CxHx for...

We got a leaf back in 2017, and solar on the roof in 2018. Seems like every spring drive electric mn posts the annual deal on the leaf (and only the leaf). Last year I think it was $8k off, when we got ours in 2017 we got $10k off, add in the $7500 from the federal government and it's a pretty...

Carbon footprint is all about MPG, and miles ridden, a gallon of gas contains a certain amount of carbon and burning it releases that much carbon as CO2 or CO or just plan C in the case of sooty messes. So if you replace a car getting 30 mpg with an NC getting 60 mpg you'll cut the carbon...

    Heart

I work for a company that makes pacemakers. Couple times a year they either show at company meetings or send around videos of people who have our devices installed... One of them was a story much likes yours, except instead of a prius he was an EMT driving an ambulance, with a patient and his...

    Fuel efficient coasting?

The clutch isn't what's providing the braking force when you are engine braking, it's the compression in the engine (unless you are slipping the clutch the whole time) so the clutch will wear less from engine braking then the brakes will wear from regular braking. And normal engine wear (from...

    Fuel efficient coasting?

With fuel injection engine should be using no fuel when engine braking... (with RPM well above idle). It will use fuel when idling (even if you are idling while in gear with the clutch engaged). That said, if you are engine braking you slow down faster than if you are coasting, slowing down...

    DCT is NOT automatic transmission...

Marketing departments don't need to worry about technicalities, and only worry about reality as much as the legal department says they are required to.

    DCT is NOT automatic transmission...

My electric car is sold as being an automatic... but it never changes gears at all (even reverse is just the motor running backwards) Generally speaking I feel like the term "automatic" and "manual" refer to the intervention needed from the driver/rider. If you want to talk in terms of...

However you manage it, make sure to run a second line (with a valve) into the air intake for when you need a little extra boost from the engine.

    In case you were wondering...

In the long long ago, before I got the luggage on the back, I got a stern talking to from the matronly proprietor of the local vietnamese restaurant... She was in the back when I rode up and didn't come up to the front until I was in the place... From her perspective I showed up on the...
