Beginner just test rode 3 bikes today, turning questions on the NC

I don't find this handling issue you mentioned. I ride a lot of mountain back roads and love the handling. I have a 2014 manual shift. It's my second bike, first is a 1999 Honda Valkyrie Tourer which doesn't get nearly the mpg as the 700.

Upgrade the NC or new bike

Look at the Honda Africa Twin since you're so tall. I also have an NC700X but 30" inseam which just barely lets me put my feet on the ground. Weigh 250 so no bottom out on suspension.

    Maintenance

I change oil and filter every 8,000 miles. I clean my chain about every 500 miles or more frequent if riding on dirt roads. I clean and lube it with WD-40. Chain has over 17,000 miles on it and looks like new. That's the only maintenance that I have done.

    Need Opinion

2012 through 2014 has lots of aftermarket parts available as they all look alike, same frame, etc. 2014 has gear you're in. I've got a 2014 that has about 14K miles good riding, on and off road. I've only owned it since July of 2015.

    LED Spot Lights

Where are you mounting them? I don't have a light bar nor engine guard on my NC. I would like to find clamps that would fit on the front fork assembly stationary part. Lights look good. Lots of deer, skunks, ground hogs and opossums at night here to look out for. Also, are you running...

2017: What did you do to/with your NC700 today?

Lars, I did that while on vacation back in the early 70s. A really nice view. My Father-in-Law thought I was crazy to be on a road like that. He never took his eyes from looking forward. What did I do with my NC700X today? I put on an additional 208 miles of mostly loop back roads West of...

2017: What did you do to/with your NC700 today?

What have I been doing with my NC700 today? Absolutely nothing. Three days ago I cleaned and lubed the chain after my two rides over dirt roads. It has been raining for two days so maybe tomorrow I can get out and ride.

Upcoming tour - questions for experienced tourers?

Take some snacks and water. Never know where you may be at meal time or when the snack attack mode takes hold. Hot weather, drink lots of water, refill your bottles at rest stops, gas stops, etc. I normally ride after dawn and stop by sunset due to animals as well as being tired. When alone...

    Sit&Fly / Sit & Fly Seat Cover

I got the information about this seat cover from this forum, ordered it, cut it to fit my bike and found it to be great. I gave the ordering info to a friend that has a Honda ST1300 and he really likes it. It is the best $25 I have ever spent. I'm now considering to buy it and put on my Honda...

Upcoming tour - questions for experienced tourers?

My personal opinion to the answers to your questions: Q1, ride until you get tired and find a place to stay. Usually the first day you will have the drive to go farther but don't push it. That's when you start making mistakes. Q2, GPS is fairly close. Times between points takes into...

2017: What did you do to/with your NC700 today?

Friday, Aug. 25th, made a loop ride which included 30+ miles of gravel in the mountains. Crossed over from Cataloochie Valley, NC to Cosby, TN. Loose gravel, rough and lots of slick stone in road. Good ride. Total loop was 170 miles. Riding temperature was great, 61 F. to start and 82 F. at...

    Helmet Question

Look at the new Scorpion carbon fiber helmet. It comes in 3 different head styles. I wanted one but it was only in black when I was ready to purchase. I wanted a Wine color. Bought a HJC and am not pleased with it.

Really hot. Do you you ride?

670cc, you apparently do not get much riding in over the year. When it's going to be hot hot hot, we start earlier in the morning, like just after daylight and end around 2 pm. In the South you ride anytime, almost. When riding across country I try to schedule rides in early June or in...

2017: What did you do to/with your NC700 today?

Yesterday, Sunday, I rode from my house to the top of the mountain, Newfound Gap to enjoy the coolness of the day, the scenery and take a pic or two. Only about 100 mile trip but still a good ride. Remember when you're riding to take time to smell the roses. Enhances the totality of the ride.

    What a pain! (Any ideas)?

I put a set of Rox 1" x 1 1/4" risers and helped to remove that ache. My issue is sometimes I tense up and my lower lumbar starts hurting. That's usually when I'm pushing a bit hard in the curves. I need a trip to Ana. She can make you levitate about 6" off the table when she loosens those...

2017: What did you do to/with your NC700 today?

A friend and I rode back roads from our homes in Seymour, TN to south edge of Asheville, NC to look at a house he is renting for a few nights to celebrate with immediate family their 60th wedding Anniversary. Foggy start and then bright sunshine with some cool temps. 220 miles and the NC...

    Meeting other riders?

I'm an extrovert. I've been told that I could talk to a stump, a pole or a fence post. I guess I got that from my Dad as he never found a stranger. I look up area bike nights and make some of them occasionally which in turn allows to meet and talk with other riders and from there get to make...

2017: What did you do to/with your NC700 today?

Tuesday a friend and I rode some great back roads in the upper corner of TN and western corner of NC. Total ride miles was 338 (which included several stretches of crushed rock roads). New seat cover sure makes the difference. Yesterday I cleaned and inspected the chain (no adjustment needed)...

2017: What did you do to/with your NC700 today?

I didn't do it today but did it yesterday. I did a 262 mile loop ride from my house using main roads just to get out and cruise. I also put a seat cover on my NC that I got the information from this Forum. The material came from Israel. And it does work. Made my ride much more comfortable...

2017: What did you do to/with your NC700 today?

I put 234 miles of TN and NC on Redbug today and averaged 79.1mpg. If the seat was more comfortable I'd really love this machine. With the factory seat, I just love this machine.
