You are also in the lucky position of being able to have a bag full of clips in your frunk in case one fails. ;)

Been there, done that, there should be a T-shirt! Everything anybody has ever done, they did it once for the first time. Keep asking questions.

Rounded off oil drain plug bolt, anyone know where I can get new one?

Certainly. They could have also just broken their collar bone, and can't do it (temporarily). It happened to me. ;)o_O

Rounded off oil drain plug bolt, anyone know where I can get new one?

Convenience the one time, with the possible trade-off of inconvenience the next time. Oh, and disposable income.... And maybe a plan to sell soon?

Harbor Freight Motorcycle Lift as parking space...

I have that very lift. And park one of my PTWs on it pretty much every winter. Just use the ramp to get it on, then I put the ramp to the side after. (Just don't forget the ramp when it comes time to back off.)

Rounded off oil drain plug bolt, anyone know where I can get new one?

To be fair, it's not the wrench, it's the system. Dry threads vs. lubricated, operator error (anyone go past the click, or "double click"?), clean vs. some corrosion, etc. Just get it tight enough and stop. ;)

Rounded off oil drain plug bolt, anyone know where I can get new one?

Tight enough is technical enough for me, yes. At least when it comes to oil drain plugs, which is what this thread is all about. I'm very familiar with the crush washer concept; being a metallurgist I could even explain in gory detail why it should never be re-used. I just happen to be of the...

Rounded off oil drain plug bolt, anyone know where I can get new one?

Good grief! Drain plugs need to be tight enough to make a seal, and tight enough to not vibrate out. That's it. The space between that, and stripping threads out of an aluminum pan has to be a factor of four or greater. As to the crush washer, I am curious why Honda hasn't gone the way of...

Rounded off oil drain plug bolt, anyone know where I can get new one?

Torque wrench for an oil drain plug? No way. Nope, never, no. Cylinder head bolts and similar sure. But oil drain plug?

General opinion on riding with backpack?

I question the danger part. I mean, sure, if this, then that, and you run into a thing a certain way, it may become an entanglement. The same points are made about why some people don't want to wear a seatbelt. To your actual point/question, all of my scooters and motorcycles have top cases...

Close call today, countersteering and leaning still freaks me out.

Target fixation combined with low skills can be deadly. Practice, practice, practice both low and high speed maneuvers. On those occasions where I feel I've gone in too hot, I have a mantra: "Steer INTO the danger!" Reasoning is, if I'm too hot in a right turning sweeper, and start drifting...

A bit confused about car (bike) loan...

Depends on if you are buying a $10k bike and putting $3k down, or if you are buying a $7k bike, borrowing the entire amount. The bank wants to see you put some skin in the game, so if you are buying that $10k bike with $3k down and a $7k loan, what they see is you have 30% collateral. You are...

    Rear tire slow leak...

If you haven't changed out the entire valve yet, do that too. I just had a slow leak between the wheel and the valve stem on one of my rides. And yes, the valve core could be the issue, but could also be due to dirt inside. You can replace the core only, which could also fix slow leak in the...

    New member welcome thread..

Historically tire manufacturers recommended to replace tires at 5 years regardless of miles. Currently, most now recommend replacement at 10 years, regardless of miles. This is total time since manufacture, not how long they have been installed. It's similar to motor oil, where car...
