Running the engine in from new

I agree. Good dino changed when it gets dirty is better than neglected synthetic, surely. I've run Pennzoil 10-40 dino for decades in all sorts of engines with fine results.

Running the engine in from new

I think that is generally true with engine break-in. You don't want the anti-friction additives in a synthetic oil. You are wanting wear to polish the mating surfaces clean. Then once that is done, you want to preserve the polish and get long life with a good synthetic.

    Front brake panic

ABS is a lifesaver if you grab the brake hard instead of squeeze, but activating it costs you stopping distance compared to what the bike will do if progressively braked right up to but not past traction loss. That makes sense because ABS prevents lockup by releasing the brakes 20 or 30 times a...

Down and out for a while.

We all have to learn to deal with aggressive cagers... the phenomenon is not going to end. Riding in DFW you must expect well over half of drivers to floor it to cut you off the minute you activate a turn signal or make a head movement indicating you are going to change lanes. If you don't have...

NC700X DCT for First Time Rider?

Congratulations. That is a fantastic deal! Was that from the private seller down in Spring? Man, he really came off on the price. I was looking at that one. ;)

    Should i go for NC750x

Yes, I am awaiting these changes as well. I rode a 2014... the NC has always been a good machine but the fine tuning for 2018 promises to make it better.

    How to buy a helmet?

I have long success with Etymotic ER20 plugs, also called ETY plugs. But the quietness of the helmet still makes a difference.

    2018 750

Here is the distinct value of New Member posts. New buyers may have nothing but questions about the bike, but you learn what bike they sold to get this one, or what other bikes they have in the garage, and what they were looking for when they decided on the bike in question. Then, as they...

    2018 750

True, Red Rider. A broad reading of a forum will tell you so much: what sort of people ride a certain bike, how many design/engineering flaws or maintenance headaches come with it (something that varies all over the map, from bike to bike), a wealth of user experience with mods and whether there...

    2018 750

I have asked several H salesmen about the 750 coming to the US. The response has been weird... they don't know, they haven't checked, let's change the subject. What's up wit dat? I ask the usual: do you know price, delivery date, colors? All right, will you let me know as soon as you get...

NC700X DCT for First Time Rider?

Wind is our constant companion in Texas. Continue riding in it and getting comfortable with it. It is not only challenging in motion... a strong enough gust can lay you low at a stop, esp on a tall bike that makes a good sail. It's in the gusty wind where a good windscreen and especially a good...

NC700X - Does it Matter What Year to Buy?

The bike I tested and had some niggles with was a 2014. Among the weird things on the test bike was, it was presented as having 4400 miles on it but it looked quite worn for 4K miles. The exhaust pipe was sooty and the front of the can discolored brown, new tires were fitted, and the ignition...

NC700X - Does it Matter What Year to Buy?

Yes, I eventually got it to load. Ggarry like me prob. uses the HTTPS Everywhere plugin for a layer of security online, and for some reason it hung me up. Or it could be my plugin added the "s" to the link he posted... don't know. Anyway, I got there and read the piece. There are several other...

NC700X - Does it Matter What Year to Buy?

Thank you, Ggarry. That link didn't seem to work, but yes, 2016 was significant; all at once you got a new muffler, new bodywork, LED taillight, larger windscreen, one-liter larger frunk, the tie-down rail on the frunk lid, and the three S modes. It was touted as a third generation of the...

NC700X - Does it Matter What Year to Buy?

After years of reading MC forums, it seems that a question like the OP's is mainly an invitation to members to express confirmation bias. Riders of an older model will say there's no difference, save your money and buy the early model. Riders invested in a late model are sure the incremental...

    Should i go for NC750x

Yessir, the farkling is half the fun of a bike. I tend to start with getting the ergos dialed, convenience items, then with less commitment the looks, sound and etc. I also tend to defer all of it for getting good safety gear, which I pretty much have already. I am looking for available 2016s...

    Visordown NC750X review

The Honda white paper linked earlier in the thread is fascinating. The company did exactly what they set out to do with the NC engine, employing one unique design feature after another to get there. Reading "half a Fit" in various reviews doesn't tell half the story. The truth is far more...

    Should i go for NC750x

Rest assured I was not trying to elicit a defensive reaction, just giving my impression of a '12 model 700XD. I am assuming the 750X coming to the US will be an improvement over previous NCs. It has been regarded that way in Europe. Nor am I put off by the design intention of a long stroke...

NC700X DCT for First Time Rider?

In a blurb on automatic motorcycles in Motorcycling the Right Way, Ken Condon remarks that fewer and fewer manual-shift autos are sold these days, and new generations are growing up who have never shifted gears in a car, and find the hand clutch on a MC intimidating... and that this is hurting...

    Another new NC750X review

... old thread, but here we are in 2018 with the 750 finally coming to the US in mid-year. Yay! Cager, I enjoy your vids. You're not a technical reviewer but you communicate your impressions when riding better than most. Keep it up.
