well, it’s not much of a story. Engine went bang on the M40 a week ago. So looks like the flywheel sheared off. 78,000 miles, 2016 X. But… why would the flywheel shear off? 8k 2016 S engine turning up on Saturday…

hi JT, me too, no idea… oil good, coolant good, 78000 miles. I’m assuming mains have gone, she’ll turn over with a socket on the crank, plugs out, lumpily. Not smooth. Starter motor just makes a shrieking sound.

Evening all. I have a 2016 X with main bearings gone. Past experience leads me to buying a low mileage replacement engine from that auction site. Question is, will a ‘16 S engine fit an X frame, and connect up without issues? Thanks in advance for any wisdom and input.

What I replaced were the steel clutch plates, and the fibre/cork ones… stick the fibre/cork plates in oil overnight beforehand. You’ll find a very easy neutral afterwards. I also have a BMW RS1200RS and that’s a lot harder to find an easy neutral with! And it clunks like a tractor into first...

You’re most welcome! It’s a bit of a pain of a job, all those clutch cover bolts… but NOT difficult… If you do it yourself I recommend you make sure you replace all bolts back where they came from!
