    Long day…

The new 2016 S Engine is in the frame. Took 6 hours, plus helium balloons, a scissor lift, pieces of wood, rubber mallet, prayer, despair. I’m a little nervous as to whether this is going to work, because the donor bike has a different dash… cue more prayers. Tomorrow I’ll plug everything in...

My cat sat next to me for all the 6 hours it took. Couldn’t have done it without him.

Dead engine out. I won’t pretend it was easy. I pulled the frunk so I could meddle more easily. Toughest was trying to unclip the plugs on the injectors, in the end I just unbolted the fuel rail, and actually getting the engine out of the frame, once it was loose. Taking the cam cover off did...

Seems unusual, to me. I think, looking at the crank where it’s broken, there’s a crack. So maybe just dumb luck. Hay ho. Stuff happens.

Look away if you are of a sensitive disposition…

well, it’s not much of a story. Engine went bang on the M40 a week ago. So looks like the flywheel sheared off. 78,000 miles, 2016 X. But… why would the flywheel shear off? 8k 2016 S engine turning up on Saturday…

I’m working on removing the engine, and I pulled the stator cover… horrifying!

    Engine swap

hi JT, me too, no idea… oil good, coolant good, 78000 miles. I’m assuming mains have gone, she’ll turn over with a socket on the crank, plugs out, lumpily. Not smooth. Starter motor just makes a shrieking sound.

    Engine swap

Evening all. I have a 2016 X with main bearings gone. Past experience leads me to buying a low mileage replacement engine from that auction site. Question is, will a ‘16 S engine fit an X frame, and connect up without issues? Thanks in advance for any wisdom and input.

What I replaced were the steel clutch plates, and the fibre/cork ones… stick the fibre/cork plates in oil overnight beforehand. You’ll find a very easy neutral afterwards. I also have a BMW RS1200RS and that’s a lot harder to find an easy neutral with! And it clunks like a tractor into first...

You’re most welcome! It’s a bit of a pain of a job, all those clutch cover bolts… but NOT difficult… If you do it yourself I recommend you make sure you replace all bolts back where they came from! I lay them out in a pattern on the floor as I remove them. Once you’re In There, cracking the main...

    Ignition barrel, no dash.

Hi bigbird, thanks for your input. I’ve used hot glue for years in this way, never had any problems. Heat shrink wouldn’t help in this case, as the joint is right on the casing of the ignition barrel…

    Ignition barrel, no dash.

Hi! Just seen this. I lifted the ignition barrel out and one of the two wires had broken at the solder joint… lots of blue copper corrosion dust. I assume the salt got up there and ate it. I lengthened the wire and resoldered it back on, then used my glue gun to seal both wires and their...

Hi, when I bought my ‘16 750X I had precisely the same problem. Fine until hot. It had 14,000 miles then, (now 74,000). I’m the end, having tried EVERYTHING else, I put new clutch plates in, steels and fibres. Cured it. The old steels were blued, presumably dragging when hot. Since then, I’ve...

    Ignition barrel, no dash.

Greetings friends. I’m a courier on a manual ‘16 750X. 51k miles. Had no trouble till today... came out from a drop, ignition key on, no dash. Clock fine, Hiss flashing. Cut a long story short, the AA man fixed it with a CABLE TIE. The wires that come out of the ignition barrel have a dodgy...
