We got our tickets from Bangkok to Chiangmai for an overnight bus, leave this evening. Hope to see some of our Asia located NC'ers up there.

Talked to Phillip Gibbins of Rider's Corner Bar and Restaurant and he said some rooms were still available, first come, first served.

Looks like one great adventure. Wish I was there. Send Pics! I wonder if they have a how many folks can you carry on your bike contest?

He's the smart one in the family since he has the school bag.
Too bad they didn't teach where to sit on a bike.

Finally grabbed my bag and headed to Bangkok,

waited for our bus to Chiang Mai and was off.

So, after getting to Chiang Mai, what is the first thing you do? Go find an elephant to ride, of course.

But they forgot to mention beforehand, if you ride em, you got to wash em!

OK... back to the HU meeting...

The 11th Annual HU Thailand Travellers Meeting 2017 (self proclaimed the biggest mini-meeting in the world) was lots of fun.

A few local riders showed up,

a couple of riders in the middle of trips taking the winter off in Thailand,

IMG_2232.jpg

and also a bunch of expats (that came for the BBQ buffet)

which was fabulous!

I kept looking but no NC'ers showed up.

Dr. G was there, (he's leaving to South Africa next week to travel the dark continent for a while before heading to Russia in April).

you could ask him anything, he's been there.

A Canadian couple, currently continuing 4.5 years on the rode of their RTW journey, had a nice presentation. They claim to be slow-moto'ing, because you could have walked farther than they have gone in that time.

Of course, after a few beers, the local karaoke singer took the mic and sounded great.

I had a great time, met a bunch of great people, listened to some great lies, ate some great food! Oh, did I mention I had a great time? I even got a sticker.

Great post, I really enjoyed it. I can't ride yet. But, Now can we consider going of Africa, after Argentina???? Then just a short across the continent ride to Morocco. Then maybe a short ferry ride to Spain. Across a boarder to France. Never been under the tunnel to England. Next we got all of Europe to see. We must have visas before we leave, but a trip across Russia is quite possible. Then a little boat ride to Alaska. Then just a short ride back home!!!!!!!!

Will probably be really expensive, to get to South Africa and then will have to fly/ship bikes over the middle countries where they like to shoot people. Lots of time you need armed escort/guides with. I can't see any cost/benefit ratio that seems doable for me. Dr. G is heading to South Africa and will rent a bike there and turn it back in when he leaves, flying to Russia.

After South America, next year, shipping the bikes to Europe could be Plan B...;)

Combining Europe with a run across Russia should also be doable, (Hitler did it but stayed too long), but Dr. G said no little boat rides to Alaska, would have to enter on the lower 48 west coast.

Ok, South America 2017. Then, 2018 Europe. And 2019 got to ride the Ho Chi Minh trail before I die. As for the finances, they will play hell getting an old almost dead, to completly dead fellow to pay off his debt! As once since said "Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose."
