2018: What did you do to/with your NC700 today?

Officially commuted to work and back for the first time this year! About 25 miles roundtrip, 28 degrees F out when I left I had all my heated gear on.

The afternoon hit about 44 for the high and sunny all day so I took the opportunity to ride on the freeway.

The gas is kinda crappy even though I put stabilizer in it last fall. I put some Seafoam in the gas and a few shots in the oil to clean things a bit.

After my freeway ride I took it to my favorite parking lot close by and practiced some MSF drills for a bit of a refresher. I did some turns from a stop, cone weave, figure 8s, swerve & stop and hard braking to help bed in the new brake pads and scrub in the new tires.

Our snow has disappeared enough to get out and ride. So i made a trip down to the local DMV for Title/Reg! New plates and had a great ride today. 120 miles 2.1 gals netting 55MPG! :{)

And this is what drives me up a wall when dealing with a dealer. I'm constantly saying 'give me the out the door price', to which they often say 'that's not how we do things'.
OK, by.
Seriously, this niggling is what keeps me on used cycles. Just give me the number, dammit!

Never forget that as it's you that has the money, YOU are the one in charge of the negotiations.

You: "What's the 'out of the door' price please?

Salesperson: "That's not how we do things here"

You: About Face - Forward March

Salesman: "Now.... let's not be hasty here..."

Dropped my NC off at the shop yesterday for the full 24000 mile service. They said they would have it for about 10 days (lowest number of the 4 shops I called) and already had the parts (filters and such) from 3 other NC jobs they had on the books. Didnt know there were that many in the area! I know of 2. It will be nice to have everything gone over as I do have some big trips coming up and she was due for a once over. It was REALLY weird stepping out into the garage today and not seeing the motorcycle... Had a panic moment for a sec until I remembered.

On another note, I got to try out my new gloves, Klim Badlands Aero Pro, and they are nice, comfortable and excellent grip. I expect a few weeks to get them broken in, but these things are what I have come to expect from Klim. I have had them on my watch list since December, but my size/color combo has been sold out. Cycle Gear had them in stock so I bought immediately. And, in checking, the 2X Grey are again out of stock.

Klim Badlands Aero Pro Gloves - Cycle Gear

I was also looking at the Induction (Klim Induction Gloves - Cycle Gear) as well, but returned them after putting on the Badlands. Yes, bought both to compare, and have already received the refund. Gotta give Cycle Gear credit on stuff like that. I have never had an issue with returns or swaps.

Thermometer was showing 34° yesterday morning so I drove the WK to work deciding it was still too cold for the bike, but it warmed up nicely to near 60° which made me wish I had the bike for the ride home.

Thermometer was showing 40° this morning and we're expecting another nice afternoon so I rode the bike in to work. I dug my neck gaiter out of my PNW hiking gear and that made a lot of difference. Bike and gear don't have heat, but for my 20 minute no-freeway commute I was plenty warm enough.

Alternate Side Parking

Haven't got out much recently, though I drove the bike over to Jersey City earlier this week to check out Kayak Polo. A snow flurry started but didn't stick.

Here's the bike parked in its natural city habitat this morning, this time with my dog. Incidentally, there are something like two dozen motorcycles that park on this block and the next one. I may do a post just about that.

How do the cars get out without bumping or tipping your bike?

That's pretty much what happens. Perhaps I'm forgetting something here.....
Am I supposed to turn around again? :p

Try extending it out, try explaining what's about to happen.

"Either I get the "Out the Door" price or me and my pocket full of cash are out of here. Easiest sale you'll ever miss. Your choice - you decide. Now, what'll it be?"

Probably true. But buying used, I have never had anyone say, OK, on top of that agreed-upon price I have to charge an extra $100 for a bill of sale, plus there is the prep. I had to polish for over an hour to get this thing looking good enough to get you to come see it. Oh, and that oil change I just did; so prep's another $100.

Tax and registration on top of the price, fine, no problem. But if you are going to put charges on top of the price we're talking about, I'm walking. Every time.

People tell me "well that's just the way the business works". OK, question for the masses; Does ANYONE really LIKE that?

When I bought my used Grand Cherokee the salesman and I agreed to an out-the-door price, but when the signing time came the bottom line was suddenly a couple thou more. I put the pen down and asked about the number, he started "explaining" what all the extra charges were. I asked, "What about the out-the-door price we agreed to?" He began to explain again and I got up to leave. I'm not sure what was more disrespectful; the way they tried to sneak it in or that I would buy the idea that a freaking car salesman would pretend not to know what the term out-the-door meant.

They very quickly made the adjustments and fixed the bottom line.

There are apparently people that fall for those tricks, so the dealer's might as well try. It's up to the buyer to be careful.

I had one of those episodes where the dealer slipped in an extra that we had not negotiated. I caught it and they removed it, but I made sure their dishonesty was known to the world via dealerrater.com.

I went on an ordering spree. Ordered my DanMoto exhaust, my Center Stand and a pk of K+N oil filters. Now to find some good full Synthetic oil for it. Got out and rode a few mile yesterday. When i got home from work my wife asked me smiling, "I see you took the bike, how long did it take you to get to work this morning", to which i replied "about 8 minutes". She responded "did you get off on time today? and i said "yup". Smiling even more she responded "So you got off over an hour ago"..."heheheheh YUP". Gotta love the NC700!!

Today I got my Amazon box with the Air Hawk 2 seat cushion. Quick install and off I went into the mountains. There is a Army base here, Ft Huachuca, and the main road goes straight through and out threw back to a really fun ride into the foothills. Left out the gate a few miles and there is Parker Canyon reservoir. Right and it takes you down and out of the foothills to a long straight road to Sonoita, Az. It's a little 5 restaurant town at junction 82 and 83 highways.
Anyways, the seat makes all the difference in the world and I would highly recommend it. I had watched a couple YouTube video reviews on them and knew not to jump on it with the seat fully blown up. I started out at half full and it was great. It made it seem like I would never have to pull over, it was so comfortable. The large fits the 700x really well.

Hey, how about a picture of that nice new fancy seat cover!!?? I too have been reading about them and would be interested in one..

I rode south through the edge of the Ozarks, including the fine Spavinaw - Salina Road.
My destination was the Clear Creek Abbey south of Locust Grove. My cousin is a nun at the associated Clear Creek sisters.
About a two hundred mile day. Lunch at the Country Cottage, Locust Grove. Very tasty buffet.
The monks have built an amazing Romanesque abbey in the middle of nowhere.

They're all at it.

Some years ago, I knew an Orthodontist who used to specialise in "full set" dentures that were specially designed to look as natural as normal teeth with fillings and slight imperfections here and there.

During the consultation, the patient would enquire "What's the price of these wonderful, fancy, natural looking teeth?"

The Orthodontist would make eye contact and reply "500 Dollars". If the patient didn't cough and flinch, he would continue "Per jaw"

I present to you my new icefishing machine!

Not really, but I am getting anxious to start riding. Took it out of the shed for some spring cleaning/re-organizing. Started first turn of the key :)

The roads are starting to get a lot of clear patches that are hard on the snowmobile when going through town, but it will be a couple weeks before they are clear enough for the bike. I'm stuck in that awkward time of year where I need to use my truck to commute to work :(
