drdubb. If you want motorcycle maps for the West. Go to Butlermaps.com . They have on and off road maps for most Western states. I plan to get a few of them.

GB, love your posts and pics. I need to get back out west. Maybe you could make a ride map!
Thanks for commenting, it is appreciated! Truth is, I don't ride with GPS, I just ride down pretty much any road around. I don't even know where I am going when I head out the door half the time!

I do often study areas after the fact, especially for the WR250R rides, with https://caltopo.com/map.html#l0=48.19951,-114.37248&z=10&b=hyb

It's great because it has map layering, often the Forest Service or some other map layer besides googles' comes in handy.

Thanks again, man.

Cal topo is pretty cool. I've got the Butlermaps. Used them to plan my trip to Utah/Colorado a few years ago. I had actually Wanted to ride the MABDR this June, but looks like that will be another year. I'm actually a few hours from the start. I could probably ride up, do a section and get home on a long day.

I looked at a MABDR ride report with a lot of photos. Nice! My rides are mostly long-day and back to home, especially when the starting time isn't hampered by really low temperatures and light. If I lived in Alaska I'd probably be out there 20 hours ; }

I'm old now. My average ride is 2-3 hours of street. Get a hotdog. Keeps me happy. I alternate the NC with the Hima. I try to get out twice a week.

This past Saturday, when I rode over to Rabbit Hash, I was gone for 6 hours...most of the time on the bike...2 quick gas stops, at Rabbit Hash long enough to take 2 pictures and quick bathroom break, and on the way back, stopped at 2 casinos to take a couple of pics showing how deserted they look (nobody there)...in those 6 hours, off the bike maybe 30 minutes total...Sunday, I was sore all over...takes time for these old bones to get back into riding shape...

I think gas stations have learned over recent years that people will pay a high “premium” for premium. Maybe 10 years ago, the differences between 87, 89, an 91 octane gasoline was usually 10 cents. Now I see 30 or more cents diferences between grades as the norm. I never buy premium gas and would never buy any vehicle that requires premium because I see it as a sort of price gouging by fuel stations.
Here in VT 87 Regular has gotten down to $1.75 but the 91 no-alcohol Premium is $2.65.

Proactively replaced the NC battery today. I had planned to wait a couple months but I ordered a new battery in anticipation of some immediate long distance riding. But now it doesn’t like the trip is going to happen as soon as I had hoped. The old battery was 2 months short of 8 years old, and still working fine.

Interestingly, the fully charged resting voltage of the new Motocross (Yuasa) battery was slightly lower than the fully charged resting voltage on the old original battery. I did not load test old and new for comparison. Apparently resting, open circuit voltage is an indication of state of charge, but not necessarily an indication of overall capacity.

I guess North Carolina is forcing the private campgrounds to be on the same schedule as state campgrounds....dang it...which I dont get...if you can safely go to Walmart, you can safely camp....easier to stay 6' apart in a campground than in Walmart (even with their stupid arrows, which 40-60% of the shoppers are not following anyways). If I had a way to trailer my bike to 2 wheels or over to Arkansas, I would...but 2 wheels is about an 8 hour ride on superslab and they place over in Arkansas which 670cc mentioned is over 800 miles from my house one way...

I know here in Montana that they don't want to spread emergency responders and law enforcement too thin... As well as Search & Rescue.

Question for you or anyone. I bought new 2015 last year. Is my battery from 2015? Is the mfr date on the battery?

Yuasa definitely puts a code/serial number on their batteries, but I'm unable to decipher a manufacturing date from that. If anyone knows what the code means, let me know. For example, my 2012 battery says QE0748, and my new one says W01248.

Wow. I don't know where you live exactly, but I saw Harrison, AR to Louisville was about a 544 mile drive.

For me, Harrison is 450 miles one way, while Kickstand Lodge is 600 miles one way.

Changed the oil and air filter today. Record time on the air filter as only took off part of the plastic. Had the engine light come on...realized that I forgot one of the electrical connectors...>.< At least I still had it apart so a quick unscrewing of the air box to attach the connector. Tested the battery and it is reading as weak. I expected this as I think it is the original. Seems like a good time to shop around.

Finally got my new license plate tags in the mail and on the bike. I’m was a month past expiration.
Mailed the check to the DMV in March. With the Stay Home Stay Safe orders, they stopped processing the mail-in renewals. The governor did pass an executive order to extend expired plates and driver’s licenses until June just in case, so I guess mine were ahead of schedule.
