2020: What did you do to/with your NC700 today?

You don't forget rides like that. Glad you kept the rubber on tarmac
There's been a couple I remember for extreme wind and gusting. If you aren't touring with camping gear you you might feel the need to make it home. But on one of those I was wondering if I should hole up in some dense woods until it passed, which could have been maybe some time into the next day, in an area known for long extreme winds. Even cages were slowing down a lot, unusual in an area where everybody usually hauls ass when they can because it's a long way to where ever they are going.

This past Saturday, rode the NC700x down to C&C powersports in Clarksville Indiana for the Indian Demo day... I test rode the FTR1200 and the Chieftain Classic Elite...I had rode the bikes last year during demo day and thought I would try it again. Last year I was impressed...this year, not so much...yes, they have power (over 2 times the HP of the NC700x) and amazing torque (comes with $$$$$ price tag). Realized while riding them that the bikes I have (the NC700x and the 2007 C50 Boulevard) fit me better and if I ever need to replace them, just replace them with the same bikes...I have no need for 120+hp bikes, don't need to spend more for a bike than my car. The heat coming off that FTR1200 was ungodly on the legs (and it was 75'F outside). The Chieftain elite was comfortable, but not anymore than my C50 with its mustang seat. After test riding them, got on my trusty NC700 and took a leisure ride back home, curving thru the local hills...Whenever I need to replace the C50 (it does have over 101,000 miles on it now and it has always needed a 6th gear), I may replace it with a CTX1300 if I can find one in really good shape...but for now...both bikes will remain in my stable.

The CTX1300 is the same motor as my ST1300. If you can’t stand heat, the CTX1300 is not for you. The ST will boil you alive in hot weather. The CTX does not look any cooler.

I picked up new front rim June 3rd and went for ride. Bike rides smooth up to 95 mph. Installed new Puig windscreen Saturday. Also installed Givi 1111FZ top case bracket. Cost of front rim and windscreen is putting Givi Monokey M5 base plate and Givi V47NNTA Tech top case on hold until first of July. As for my 7 rib fractures. They still hurt like hell !!! Very slow and extremely painful recovery. I don't wish this injury on anyone. I drove to Mormon Lake Lodge this afternoon. Stopped at crash and burn site. Found out what I hit in gravel shoulder. A rock the size of a basketball. Also found top 2/3'rds of my old Puig windscreen. Crash site was at top of hill with sharp left curve. Also while I was at Mormon Lake bathrooms. Two bikes came bye me. First one was Harley. Second one was a 2012 Honda NC700X with Honda top and side cases. He pulled over to me. We chatted for a while. He doesn't take his NC700X off road. So his bike looked right of dealer floor. One and half months ago I pulled into GOAZ dealer in Flagstaff. Parked next to a stock 2013 NC700X. He was from Winslow, AZ. After 2 years of having this bike. Those are the first 2 NC700X's I've seen.

swapped out my OEM H4 headlight bulb with a plug and play LED bulb...same size as the OEM; picture doesnt do it justice...much brighter white light than the dull oem H4 Bulb...and it compliments the 2 little LED lights...they are not big, but I have had cagers flash their lights at me on the other side of traffic lights on commute to work..

I undid my former sins: When I installed my 12V + USB charger in the frunk last summer, I lopped off the OEM 6P connector and put on a cheap connector from Amazon instead. I didn't have a proper crimp tool so I soldered on the pins. :(

It has been bothering me ever since, so I finally got around to putting a new waterproof Sumitomo HM 090 6-pin back on the bike, and making an adapter with proper crimps for my frunk outlet. Much better.

Sad hack job:

Swapped the factory can with the ever popular IXIL Hyperlow L3XB. Was kind of torn about doing it but glad I did. Looks pretty cool and the sound is amazing. I can always put the factory can back on it. That's the beauty of the slip-ons. Literally took me 2 mins to change out.

This really sucks that if you inline from your photo sharing site that the pictures are SHRUNK, smaller than a photo could be when hosted on this site. Here I am, saving this site's bandwidth yet.

Went for a lovely two up ride to Stratford on Father's day to have lunch on a patio with some old friends my wife hadn't met. Quick stop first to tend to my parents grave site before lunch. A lovely ice cream after. Then the long way home around the north end of Waterloo back to Cambridge. Sorry, no pics.

The type of "bike porn" I do is not about close-ups of the same-ol' machine so I gotta say it stinx to see wide-angle landscape vistas with small details in mind presented on early-2000's-screen postage stamps. Anyway, the rest of the mess from yesterday, historical info on the old schoolhouse via the flickr links... Next 8 or 9 hours are gonna be off-the-pavement WR250R, and maybe get above 80F. Considering how little I've done of this lately, it should be a shock to the system ; }

Yesterday I changed out sprockets and chain. Today made 300 mile round trip to Phoenix. It's too damm hot down there. Only went because my doctor wanted a in person visit. I prefer the phone visits better. Also passed a big grass fire in North Phoenix. North of Carefree Highway and East of I-17. Extremely hot, dry, and windy weather can't be any fun for firefighters.

Got the Shingles vaccine on Monday morning. I have had all the common side-effects/reactions to the drug listed on the internet. My original plan was to ride the NC750x to the doctor's office and then to get some other tests performed at a different location. Some rains changed my plan.

Seriously, passing a kidney stone is less painful than this vaccine. Every muscle in my body hurts, alternating between shivering and sweating, loss of appetite and nausea. Its now Wednesday morning and I can barely lift a coffee cup to my mouth. Spent the entire day in bed on Tuesday, spent most of Monday in bed/on the couch. Today will probably be mostly in bed, but I am feeling slightly better.

So no riding for me.

Just a bit of general advice, if your doctor advocates the Shingles vaccine just administer a quick Throat Punch to your doctor and ask her/him if they still recommend this vaccine. Repeat Throat Punching your doctor until they decide that the vaccine is a bad idea.

We love stopping at old cemeteries. History carved in stone. Nice photos.

Sorry you had so many side-affects from the shingles vaccine. I got mine a couple of years ago and had no side-affects at all.

The new preferred vaccine Shingrix came out in 2017 and had been in short supply. Perhaps you had the older Zostavax vaccine? I got Shingrix and definitely had the side affects on both doses. Not fun, but I don't regret doing it.

I believe mine was the Zostavax. I didn't realize there was/is an updated vaccine.
