The 2022 BMW S 1000 XR: Touring? Sporty? Yes!

Contents

The design sheet for the S 1000 XR always has me thinking it came from a mad genius. Borrow the engine from the RR and the riding position of the GS bikes. Make it look like a tourer but not too much like one. An aggressive front fairing should solve that. Now stir it all together and you have a European-made delight.

BMW has thrown the book of goodness at the S 1000 XR. Starting with the Dynamic ESA electronic suspension, BMW Motorrad Race ABS, revised aerodynamics, and fairing with an adjustable windshield. Riding Modes Pro (incl. HSC Pro, MSR, ABS Pro & DTC) is standard, and stepping up to the premium package will add heated grips, cruise control, Dynamic ESA Pro, Gear Shift Assist Pro, a center stand and a list that keeps going.

The options list on this BMW is almost as long as the entire 2022 BMW model lineup, from M performance parts to multiple styles of panniers, this is the bike you order exactly as you want it.

2022 BMW S 1000 XR

2022 BMW S 1000 XR Features

A curve that makes you addicted: our torque.

The engine of the S 1000 XR is based on the high-performance engine of the RR and was optimized according to the XR for uncompromising long-distance performance: among other things, special camshaft profiles and designated manifolds deliver impressive torque from the middle and the widest usable speed range in its class. The longer gearbox in the upper gears ensures smooth running – which you can feel and hear.

More dynamic thanks to the lower weight.

Dynamism is also a question of mass. Even fully equipped, the S 1000 XR weighs a full 22 lbs less than its predecessors. In the lightest configuration, this bike is ready to ride at just 498 lbs. You won’t miss a single ounce, but you will feel each individual one – on every yard. In the form of better acceleration, higher agility, shorter braking distances, and easier maneuvering.

Engine and performance.

Typical to the XR, the engine is uncompromising on long distances and designed to be sporty.

Dynamic ESA Pro.

A new race-inspired valve technology and a shim package: for unprecedented suspension adjustment range between long distances and the racetrack.

Striking front design with Pro headlight.

Aggressive at all times of day: the fierce, sport front design with LED light.

Accessory range like Carbon engine guard.

Whether it’s high-quality milled parts or carbon fibre equipment such as the engine guard: Our M Performance parts from the factory or as accessories are developed for true enthusiasts.

Optimized weight.

The low weight delivers better acceleration and higher agility. In other words: more riding enjoyment – and a sporty head start.

The TFT display with BMW Motorrad Connectivity.

The 6.5” TFT display replaces the instrument panel. BMW Motorrad Connectivity connects smartphone, bike, and helmet via Bluetooth. For navigation, favorite song, and conversations.

Case system and top case.

The integrated magnesium case holder is lightweight, completely uncoupled, and self-centring.

Did the original RS/XR product launch in Canada as a ride leader. Absolutely nobody didn't love the XR. Stooopid fast, and handled like a dream. We took the XR on dirt roads, also in the wet a lot of the time and the bike was still very enjoyable. The RS was the same story, but being a boxer bike, not nearly as much of a rocket ship.

It's been my experience with [beemers] that they bring stuff to market about a decade ahead of everything else. When all the other manufacturers close within a couple years, (ESA, lean angle sensors, TFT... Hell, even ABS was standard on their bikes back in the early 90's) they simply bump the clock forward again.

Can't go wrong with a used XR if you are ever looking to move up from the NC.
