The 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 GT: Cross Country Touring At its Best

Triumph recently updated its Tiger 1200 models. Like the smaller Tiger 900 siblings, there will be two model ranges — the Tiger 1200 GT models and the Tiger 1200 Rally models — as part of the 2022 Triumph motorcycle portfolio. The Tiger 1200 GT is available in three variants — the base GT, a mid-level GT Pro, and a range-topping GT Explorer version.
The British manufacturer has made some rather significant updates to its flagship adventure motorcycle for 2022. The bikes are powered by an updated 1,160cc three-cylinder engine that produces 147 hp and 95 lb-ft of torque. The engine includes a new T-plane firing order for better low down tractability and responsiveness and a more engaging mid-range and top-end.
The Tiger 1200 G models feature an all-new chassis and redesigned swingarm lighter than before. Electronically-controlled Showa semi-active hardware handles suspension, allowing riders to adjust damping and electronically set spring preload. The bikes feature a 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel setup with Metzeler Tourance tires.
While all three variants have pretty impressive features, the base GT model misses some tech, like lean-sensitive cornering lights, a bidirectional quickshifter, hill hold, cruise control, and heated grips. It also gets only three riding modes — Rain, Road, and Sport — while the GT Pro and GT Explorer offer five — Road, Rain, Sport, Rider-configurable, and Off-Road.
The Tiger 1200 GT Explorer also gets a larger fuel tank (7.92 US gal compared to the GT Pro’s 5.28 US gal unit), a tire pressure monitoring system, and heated rider and pillion seats. It also features a rear-facing radar system that offers a blind spot and lane change warning system.
The 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 GT starts at $19,100 USD / $22,300 CAD.
