I had a '97 model for 12 years, bought new and put 102k miles on it then it was sold to a good friend who commuted to work on it for at least another year or more.

ps. my bike still had the original stator and reg/rec when I sold it but I did regular maintenance on the connectors and made sure all the ground points were good.
