The important thing is to correctly line up the chain path regardless of the wheel alignment.
If the tires are perfectly aligned the chain should be also and vice versa. But if that's not the case I want the tires running true to each other; the tires are where the critical tarmac work is being done.
The distance between front and rear tire tread edges is much longer than the chain length and thus can be aligned more accurately.
'Wrap around the tire' I mean tie off on the opposite side.
