Date: Saturday 22 October 2016
Start: Starbucks near I-210 and I-15
Start Time: (assemble between 09:00 hrs and 10:00)
Finish: In N Out, Las Vegas (near New York, New York Casino)

If anyone would like to ride along, please post, and we'll start a thread of who's going!
(Yes, I realize that will probably just be me, but it seems good to ask.)

The return trip will go down through the National Desert Preserve just below Baker, Calif. I know the way well, and find it a very scenic ride.

I'll post the waypoints as GPS coordinates this afternoon. A screen capture of a map as well.

Start Location: 34.150531, -117.472529
(waypoints to put us on a small section of "The Strip"..
WP1 : 36.071040, -115.172303
WP2 : 36.100942, -115.172817)

Las Vegas IN N OUT
: 36.101293, -115.182197

Kelso Station: 35.012506, -115.653620

29 Palms: 34.135628, -116.054166

Start Location: 34.150531, -117.472529

The ENTIRE ROUTE may be examined at this google maps [LINK].

The road there on I-15 is pretty dull. It's your standard Interstate, but gas and restrooms are always a couple exits away.

The road back goes through Mojave Preserve and is much more scenic. The Kelso train station is a bit of history worth seeing (that also has a large rest room).

I love it out that way and would love to go!! But the trip out and down from Boston might be a bit much! :)

Assembly time for this ride will be between 09:00 hrs and 10:00 hrs.
We leave at 10:00 hrs from [THIS] Starbucks.

There is a Chevron across the street, and It would be a good idea for all riders to fill up and top off there so that gas stops will be synced. I thought we could all go to the Chevron about 09:30, gas up, and then go!

[HERE] is a link to the entire route including the small part of the Vegas strip I plan to go on.

While I'm at it, here are the gas stops I know are easy to find.

Baker, CA....................(35.264066, -116.076065).........129 miles
Las Vegas....................(36.100272, -115.183442).........88
Cima Rd @ I15............(35.441173, -115.673090)..........61
Amboy........................(34.558525, -115.744900).........76
Morongo Valley............(34.046742, -116.580508)..........81
Starbucks start............(34.150531, -117.472529)..........70

The gas stops are conservative. This ensures more frequent stops and an ample supply.

This is not an organized ride. Participants ride at their own risk.

I modified the entries in this post so much, I wanted to make sure everyone (the great throng of attendants)
saw the changes... thus this post.

Tomorrow is the big day! I'm getting up early as I have to ride 60 miles just to get to the start. ☺

Made sure coolant topped off, packed a wet t-shirt to go under the mesh coat... ah the open road... see you at the start...

Watching today's ride may be done at the following URL

!StratTuner : Glympse

You can see the group's progress in real-time on a map... It's broadcasting right now, but shows I'm going 0.0 MPH...because I'm sitting at the dining room table typing....

Strat, if you want a good burger in the company of other riders plan on coming to Moonshine next April.

Moonshine Lunch Run - Home

Dave, this is just a couple hours from my house. Do let me know if you go, and I'll go, too (in spite of having to deal with the thousand bikes that will be there). We usually go the week or two after the event.

OK I went several years ago and had a good time despite riding in a cold rain 500 miles on the way home. Thank goodness for heated gloves and grips.

Hey Don, I hope you found some co-riders for your lunch ride...
Liked the tracking - didn't follow in real-time I was riding too yesterday - is it a phone app?

I have my own tracker system on the bike (see my blog: raw.peergum.com/bike-tracker and the tracking page: raw.peergum.com/where-am-i) but I need to rewrite the firmware, it seems to fail and not recover after losing the 3G signal...

Btw, still planning some trip around the USA for October, but I'll definitely include your city in the loop :)

It's a phone app called "Glympse". Highly recommended.
