I first mounted my driving lights aka spot lights (concentrated pencil beam pattern vs fog lights which disperse light everywhere) too low the way fog lights get mounted then realized after looking at a friends sportster with driving lights mounted on the sides of the headlight that higher is better for driving lights.
I wanted to weld the light mounts without removing the crash bars for proper alignment and used an old technique where you soak some rags to cover the bike and the wiring to protect from the sparks generated by the welder. Worked great then I decided to cut and reshape the handlebars - without removing them.
