Another possible scource of handguards

I did not need to trim the levers at all. I trimmed my front brake lever a little only for an old superstion/tradition. I have always had barkbusters on my dirtbikes. I went over there's bars pretty violently one time for no apparent reason. It felt like my brake had stuck on. Checked it found nothing and continued to ride. Not far up the trail it happened again. I blamed the lever getting stuck on the barkbuster as the problem and trimmed the lever. Now all my levers are trimmed. Just call it a personal preference.

Do those fit with the stock clutch and brake levers? I've heard talk of others here having to use short levers. Looking to get some of those for mine as well this winter.

I was one of those that mentioned short levers, but I do not have the stock bars. I did not have enough control length at the end of the Renthal bars to move the levers inboard as Lane and I both like to do. I also did not want to space the ends out because my bars were already an inch wider for ergonomics reasons and I didn't want to make the bike any wider than necessary. Plus, I like the extra strength of the hand guard attaching directly at the bar end. I put UHMW sliders on the ends because that is an impact point in a fall.

Nothing wrong with this solution and Barkbuster is very fine gear. This is exactly the kit I was planning to go before I decided to go with the bar change. It is a custom bend for our bikes. I just went a different way. Surprised, huh?

Cool thanks for the info. I have never dealt with these before and I'm looking for something to make a difference with the colder temps. Either heated gloves or these, these seems cheaper from what I've seen. Plus added protection. Seems like a winner.

When given a choice, take both.

Once the covers take the wind blast off, the heated gloves and/or grips have an easier job to do and they are more effective. Obviously, unheated gloves are helped as well. You may find as I have that they help in the summer with windblast reduction and that pesky problem of extracting bug guts from between the fingers of your gloves after a big juicy one augers in between them.

I have a friend who didn't let go of the bars fast enough in a fall and he ground off a pinkie finger. One thing to be sure of with hand guards is that you have enough clearance that your hands are easily extracted so you don't have the opposite problem and get one hung in there when you are trying to part company with the motorcycle. I have thrown a motorcycle or two down the road, but I don't want one throwing me down the road.

Hope you guys like pics. They are my favorite part of any post so I am throwing them all up. Forgot to say yesterday, from twistedthrottle.com the price for the entire setup was $98. I got 2 day shipping which put them at $126. Not bad IMO. What are they for? Protection from what? Bugs? Rain? Wouldn't my hands get hotter being I am in South Florida. Do the brackets come in black? Tell me your Honda stickers on the side bags are facing the right direction? Man still looks sharp!

How well do the handguards work with aftermarket windscreens? I'm thinking about getting both as winter is fast approaching.

I installed my Cycra Probend CRMs this week, just in time for a 4 day trip to the Blue Ridge. If you haven't had a bike with a fairing the handguards provide wind protection and some crash protection to hands, levers, and switch pods. I had to order the spacer kit and use 60 mm long bolts to get them to clear the master cylinder and adjustment wheel for the clutch lever. In conjunction with the mirrors and windshield the wind management is very good for a light tourer. Using the stock perch locations and bar ends the levers have lots of clearance.

I never realized that the freakin' Honda stickers on my bags are on backwards. I just put the one that came in each bag on and never thought about it. Going to fix it after dinner. I got them for the cold weather and protection in case of tip over. I am in south Florida and rode today and my hands were not any hotter than normal. I really liked how they took the wind away from my hands, made it much more comfortable down the interstate IMO. Should help with the bugs, rain, and cold.

Can you elaborate a little on the spacer kit and longer bolts? I was planning to order the Cycra guards since the deflectors look a little larger than the Bark Busters, but I'm a little confused on what exactly I'll need.

I was planning on just ordering this kit -- Cycra Pro-Bend Center Reach Clamp Racer Pack - Dirt Bike Motocross - Motorcycle Superstore

Complete Racer Pack includes CRM Probend Bars, CRM mounting clamps, Classic Enduro Shields, Powergrip Bar Ends and Probend Abrasion Guards

Is that everything I need?? It's about to cool down here, hand guards would be nice and keep the heated gloves in the closet a little longer.

Thanks!

I bought the same kit and found the aluminum bars contacted the master cylinder reservoir and clutch cable play adjuster and were too far away from the center mounts to start the supplied bolts. Cycra sells a spacer kit #136200 that gives tubular spacers and longer bolts. When I got the spacer kit I purchased a short length of 3/8" ID fuel hose. From that I cut rubber washers to cushion the metal to metal angled fit of the aluminum guard bars against the inner handlebar mounts. The longer spacer kit 50 mm bolts did thread into the mounts but only turned in a few turns. I went to a well stocked hardware store and got longer stainless steel bolts that threaded all the way down into the mounts.

Here are the bolts and a rubber spacer cut from the 3/8" ID fuel hose. The flange head bolts with the CRM kit are 25 mm, the ones that come with the spacer kit are 50 mm and I bought the 60 mm ones. Add a washer under the bolt head as these aren't flange head bolts. They are all 8 mm diameter.

Here is the mount end showing the aluminum spacer between the brush guard and the handlebar mount. You can also see how much clearance there is to adjust the clutch cable.

An FYI to anyone ordering the Barkbusters from Twisted Throttle... Call them first! I ordered the Barkbusters online from the "What fits my bike" section for the NC700X, and received the confirmation email. I noticed I had forgot the mounting kit, changed my mind, and decided to get heated grips. When I called back, he said the Barkbusters I had ordered wouldn't fit my bike and they had a new bend coming out. He said the website probably hasn't been updated yet.

Wouldn't fit? New bend? Well what does that mean? I am pretty happy with mine, wonder what they are planning to change?

You have to remember here that you are talking about Twisted Throttle and the problem is with the information on their web site and not with the Barkbusters product itself. Their web site will try to sell you a Storm S4 plus separate mounting hardware. I spoke with Robert Veljanoski, the Operations Manager for Rideworx (the Barkbusters manufacturer) and he confirmed that the BHG48-NP with either Storm S3 or VPS covers was the correct application and is bike-specific for the NC700X. Twisted Throttle has a Twisted Website. I have ordered from them for years, and still do occasionally, but they have some holes in their swiss cheese.

Hi Bamo, saw this post after I placed the order from Twisted Throttle. The two parts I placed are:
BB.S4.BK - Barkbusters Storm S4 handguard with full-wrap aluminum backbone
BB.BSC.STD - Barkbusters mounting kit for standard 7/8" (22mm)

Are they the same as your order? Thanks!

Yeah those are the same. I think it was like Beemer said maybe an issue with what was listed on their site, or the way it was presented. Barkbusters offers different kits for different sizes and bends of handle bars. Maybe that is where some of the confusion came from also. Anyway, I am sure you will like the kit. The bike looks great with them and they really do make a difference. I feel a lot more protected also. I do wear gloves all the time but you never know what could get flung up out on the road. Nice to know my hands are safe. Also I just took a fairly long day ride yesterday and by the time I got home I could barely see out my visor on my helmet through all the bugs. The hand guards kept the bugs off my hands and out of my switches and levers. They wiped right off the smooth plastic covers. They are all good and no bad that I can see. IMO of course.
