Sorry, but not true! I’ve been looking THROUGH mine since 2014 and love the quiet pocket of air it provides. The only time I lower mine to look over it is when it is raining so that the air clears the rain from my face shield.
As the song goes, I moved on but I didn't really leave. Moved on to a Triumph Tiger 800, which ended up not being the perfect machine I thought it might be. It went out the door, which left me with the NC700 still patiently waiting for my attention. The NC is such a good all around bike that...
Highly recomment Madstads windscreen. After trying three other brands with marginal success I tried the Madstad and it's been on there since 2014. And, they stand behind their product also.
Purpose. The purpose for which I use motorcycles is primarily to travel. The two simple jewels that Honda has stumbled upon while making the NC are a very low CG and the automatic transmission. Not much else matters. Oh, yes, there is rake and trail, which on the NC are quite all right, but...
2014 NC700XDE Madstad 18" windscreen, Barkbuster handguards, I think VSPs or something like that, 2" ROX risers. 29000 miles and it all fits and works together just fine. Love the bike and my only complaint is that it's underpowered. Nothing to be done about that except enjoy it for what it is.
Welcome, ShaggyM. You'll find this a fine forum. If you got yourself a DCT you'll find it most excellent for that wonderful PDX/Vancouver traffic. :) Every time to get down to Portland I thank my lucky stars that I'm on the automatic and not cranking gears. But enough of that. You're in...
28,000 flawless miles on the 2014 XDE so far. It's now playing second to the Tiger Xcx so probably won't roll the odometer over quite so fast. Still, it's my favorite for local rides.
Thomasec, as an ex-Portlandia denizen I can attest that the NC700 is the perfect commuter and intercity tool. It'll work well tearing around the city streets and dozing through commuter traffic--get the automatic model as it's best in stop 'n go traffic which are daily in the Portland area...
When loaded and on a trip I usually get 52 to 55 mpg. If I'm pushing with faster traffic it can go to 42 mpg. Just goes to show the difference between commuting on an essentially empty bike and traveling with a loaded one.
I have done it. As dedicated as I am to the automatic transmission I have closed the deal and purchased a beautiful (to me) Caspian Blue Triumph Tiger 800 XCx. That doesn't mean that I will be selling the trusty NC700XDE any time soon, but that there will be another set of wheels in the garage...
I'm not impressed with the appearance of the new Madstad mounting system. I actually like the look of the old system--gives the bike a more Dakar appearance as well as helping with the airflow behind the windscreen. Secondly, the old system blends with the 'body' of the bike nicely as well as...
