I've put ~450 miles on mine, mostly two lane country roads and have been using (and liking) the S1 mode. I've been taking it pretty easy on the throttle for breakin and am getting 71.6 as an average. I expect that will go down some after the first oil change. :p

I traded my Vstrom in on a 2017 DCT and absolutely love it. While I don't​have any physical issues, the lower CG and flickability and DCT made it all worthwhile. IMHO, the 2016+ is enough better to be a prime consideration.

Didn't say or mean to imply that the NC was unstable. Just that the DL's longer wheelbase does provide benefit on the highway in straight-line riding. Tal: The 2012+ models were incrementally better that the gen1's; not huge differences. IMHO, the styling was improved and the wind management...

I've owned a gen1 and gen2 dl650. Which year is the one you mentioned? You are about the same size as me so several of my observations may correlate. The NC looks better than the dl650 in many respects but that is definitely a personal thing. You're right about in-town comparison. The DL...

OK, I'll try to get this thread back on track. For those who have the Madstad for a 2016, what is the shape of the lower edge? I've seen pics posted by various people and the shape seems to vary from one that almost matches the headlight to one that is more smooth . . . TIA

LOL, maybe! Good to see a sailor on here. We had a race Saturday (I was RC boat) and we had gusts that were pretty stout. Some of the skippers handled jibes well and I thought a couple of them were going to rip their main sheet fiddle blocks apart!

Excellent post Malcolm! Mine is a DCT so that should be one less cable to contend with. And I have a good supply of zip ties too ;) Edit: Remembered I have a Parking Brake . . . will have to trace that puppy for slack too.

Just cautioning a relative newbie (like me :) ) that not everything labeled as "easy" or "no problem" is in fact that way. I tugged on mine as a test the other day and they would not budge. Tells me that some clamps may have to be loosened. And others have reported that some bikes cables do...

My opinion based on posts here and Stromtroopers is that the riser/cable comments are one of those that have to be taken with a grain (or teaspoon) of salt. Part of the issue is the assembly process wherein some cables are just more loose than others. Also, I think some may tend to minimize...

Thanks! Honestly, if this bike was manual only I probably would not have given it a second thought. DCT makes all the difference.

The lubricant will (and has already to a minor extent). Only a hundred miles and I already feel the need to clean the rear wheel. :p

Thanks Ruggy! I too suspect the wheels will require more than average attention. I'm OK with that though - I enjoy piddling with bikes anyway.

Got a pleasant surprise a couple of days ago when the dealer called and said my bike had arrived! Picked it up today and took the long route home :cool: Love the color!!! Will be posting some impressions soon. (Sorry for the crappy phone camera quality)

My browser kinda acts that way. When I first come to the site, it does not show that I'm logged in until I go to another page then all looks right. I haven't had to "log in" for weeks. good luck and be patient.
