Double check that you have tight clean battery connections and that the terminal screws are compressing the connectors completely.

Take your battery connectors off and clean them up with steel wool and reconnect them good and tight. It may not be the solution but it costs nothing and about five minutes of your time and may keep you from chasing expensive fruitless solutions. I had this problem once and this procedure fixed...

I know HOW to set the HSTC but I would like to know what number of bars to apply to what conditions. I presume the HSTC starts off in the dry, smooth pavement mode and then any adjustments after that are for less bars. Somebody please clarify. I have never touched this control.
