The 2024 KTM 350 EXC-F Is A Traditional Dual Sport

KTM’s dirt bike line is world-renowned for its premium-grade performance, so why not throw enough instrumentation on one to pass as a road bike and call it a day? The 2024 350 EXC-F answers that question without even a hair of hesitation. 2024’s iteration of the little dual sport has received a massive overhaul and is apparently sporting 95% new components. Read on to find out some of the highlights of the revamp.
This European dual-sport motorcycle is fundamentally identical to its larger brother, the 500 EXC-F, save for its engine and a few other components. 2024’s bike receives a new take on its predecessor’s 349.7cc single cylinder, which is now tilted 2 degrees backwards for an improved centre of gravity. KTM hasn’t announced power numbers for the thumper yet, but we can expect them to be comparable to last year’s 35 hp. Helping manage that power are two unique factory-designed engine maps, which can be changed on the fly using an optional handlebar-mounted map switch. Other optional equipment includes a quickshifter, and traction control.
The EXC-F is sporting a newly designed frame and all-new plastics, giving the bike an updated look while keeping the classic KTM styling that we know and love, solely in KTM orange, of course. Set on the front of the bike is a new LED headlight, sure to illuminate the path, whether your adventure is on or off the beaten path.
Perhaps the most exciting 2024 update for the EXC-F range is a fully overhauled WP XACT front fork setup, which comes fully adjustable by hand without the need for tools. In the rear is a WP Xplor PDS shock, which is also adjustable by hand. Being able to fine-tune your suspension by hand is a great new feature, which may come in handy on longer, more challenging rides, especially given the off-road chops this bike has.
Another new update which should make life on the EXC-F a little easier is a brand new Offroad Control Unit, which replaces a traditional fusebox. This little unit will have a series of LEDs on it which will change colour to correspond to the status of various electronic components on the bike. KTM says this is done to make diagnosing issues as quick as taking a glance under the seat.
The EXC-F series are some of the first bikes in KTM’s model lineup to hit showrooms, and we can’t wait to see what else the Austrian bike builder has in store next.

Engine
Light, compact, and weighing only 63 lb (28.8 kg), the KTM 350 EXC-F engine is an outstanding bit of engineering. For 2024, the engine is tilted 2° backward with a repositioned sprocket for an improved center of gravity, while its high-revving power and intelligent low friction design provide the goods at every twist of the throttle.Offroad Control Unit
An all-new Offroad Control Unit – or OCU – under the seat replaces all the electronic fuses and relays. All outputs are switched depending on signals from the voltage regulator and the ECU continuously. In the event of over-current, outputs are deactivated individually. This makes for easy error detection as the status of each output is indicated by a red or green LED light. This means diagnosing an electrical issue out on the trail is as easy as lifting the seat, and there’s no more need to carry fiddly fuses.Crankshaft
The KTM 350 EXC-F’s crankshaft is located in an ideal position close to the center of gravity, contributing to easier handling. It utilizes a short connecting rod, which makes for an overall compact and lightweight engine with a snappy power delivery. A plain big (bottom) end bearing with two force-fitted bearing shells runs directly on the crank pin. The engine’s pressurized lubrication system provides the necessary oil feed for this bearing. This design has a direct benefit for the crankshaft with extended service intervals, which are lengthened due to the plain bearing. So just pin it, all day long.Battery & Wiring Harness
As with the rest of the KTM range, the KTM 350 EXC-F is fitted with a proven, reliable electric start system. Powered by an ultra lightweight 2 Ah lithium-ion starter battery, it provides reliable starting time and time again, while the wiring harness has most of the electrical components carefully positioned under the seat for easy accessibility.Frame
Specifically engineered for longitudinal rigidity, the 2024 KTM EXC-F range is engineered around an all-new black powder-coated frame providing exceptional rider feedback, energy absorption, and high-speed stability. This has been achieved by repositioning the rotating masses in the frame and the inclusion of a forged steering head connection. The footrest mounts have also been moved inwards, slimming things down for less risk of hooking up. And when the ride comes to an end, a completely redesigned forged one-piece side stand ensures your enduro weapon stands proud.Subframe
A new ultra-light lightweight subframe takes charge at the rear of the main frame, featuring a 2-part polyamide and reinforced aluminum construction. With the help of computational dynamics, a specific rigidity was engineered into the subframe, to deliver outstanding handling and rider feedback. The new subframe is also shorter, more compact, and more robust than the previous generation, with the ability to bend and flex in the event of a crash, rather than break. An all-new 48 mm WP XACT Closed Cartridge spring fork finds its way into the KTM Enduro line-up for 2024. New fork protection rings also provide improved protection against dirt intrusion. The 2024 KTM EXC-F range remains rock-solid at any speed thanks to a repositioned and forged steering head connection and CNC-milled triple clamps. Made from high-grade aluminum, these feature optimally tuned steering stem stiffness, perfect alignment of the fork tubes, and precise geometry of the fork clamps to ensure highly responsive and smooth fork action – not to mention unwavering stability for those ultra-fast flat-out special stages. Newly designed, topology-optimized rubber-mounted bar mounts provide an increased grip surface for less handlebar twist. They come with a fixed mounting, providing the perfect amount of flex for the forged triple clamp setup.Energy Absorbtion
Besides the expertly crafted, hydro-formed, laser-cut, and robot-welded frame being engineered to provide exceptional rider feedback and straight-line stability, a number of components were specifically designed so the frame acts as a “shock absorber,” resulting in less rider fatigue over many hard laps. A new shock mounting, no longer connected to the main tube, significantly improves the anti-squat of the chassis.
