If you’ve got an eye on the all-new 2024 lineup from BMW Motorrad (just dropped!), you’re probably zooming in on a neat new feature the company’s added to increase rider safety.

Christened “Intelligent Emergency Call” (or simply “eCall”), the safety tech is part of the Bavrians’ first model year update for 2024, available for the following BMW models:

According to the brand’s recent press release (published to Roadracing World), the eCall “adds a covered SOS button, loudspeaker and microphone to the right-side handlebar controls,” with activation upon delivery of the bike.

It’s a neat idea, really; when pressing the “eCall” SOS button, riders will be connected to an agent (similar to our own “911” emergency line), where the middleman will assess the situation and call for emergency backup if needed.

Best part of this tech? A crash automatically triggers a call for aid, racking up the benefit of the thing considerably.

What do you think of BMW’s new tech?

Emergency call feature to alert mommy,I pooed my pants? Have you heard of compensatory behavior? The more safety devices are, installed on cars, bikes, etc. the more careless the operator becomes thinking the devices will save him from his reckless driving. A good example is NASCAR. Yes, occasionally a driver can still succumb to a horrendous crash but now it's rare due to all the changes. If all our cars and bikes were clones and the odds of injury were even......well then.
