NC700X bolt on Mods

Hey guys and gals,
I've been doing some research (this question is part of it) and I'm left without specifics on HP gains with simple addons like a muffler and K&N air filter. Can we get a thread going that discusses the top mods and any dyno results for them?

Intake:
Exhaust:
Computer mod (power commander or something of the like):
Cams:
Other engine mods:

I'm new to NC700X so forgive me if some of this is way off.

Thanks,
Cburn

EDIT: I just realized there is a mod section. I will post this over there instead. Sorry. http://nc700-forum.com/forum/nc700-mods/3047-bolt-ons-gained-hp.html#post43289

If your looking for performance mods for a low revving parallel twin there are much better platforms to start with. I've added a slip on. Haven't noticed any performance gains or extra fuel consumption. It doesn't sound like a sewing machine now though

The dealer said something about a powercommander but when I looked on their site they don't have one out yet. (It says coming soon).

You just wanted to get to post 420, admit it.

Seems like there is little interest in this thread. Is the general community not interested in mods and the performance?

"If you got steak at home, why go out for hamburgers." Most forks, always a few exceptions, bought this bike to have adventures on. Go fast has never been part of my equations with this bike, just go and go and go and go and keep going.

I think the general reason most here bought this bike has nothing to do with wanting serious street bike performance (speed/handling). Also, there just isn't a big aftermarket performance parts market. The biggest "performance" mod most have done is replacing the exhaust can. For most, including myself, it was replaced so you wouldn't be mistaken for a speeding sewing machine!

Unlike other parallel twins (like the one that powers the Ninja 650R) the NC's motor was built and tuned for economy.

I knew what i was losing when i sold my FZ6 and what I was gaining when I picked up my NC. That's why have more than one bike!

As tweak89 stated, changing the muffler by itself does very little for performance, but it sounds cool.

I have the K&N air filter in my bike, and honestly I can not see any performance difference. I am just cheap, and this filter can be cleaned every 12,000 miles instead of buying a new one.

Move along, nothing to see here.

In some way your questions might be the same as asking the CBR1000 forums how to install a lower rev limiter and bump up the gas mileage. Mass head scratch would ensue.

The average buyer of the NC700X knows going into it the engine was designed for low specific output and high efficiency. To fiddle around with it in an attempt to get more power seems pointless as the engine's basic architecture does not lend itself to match even the starting output of other 650 class engines.

For the record, an aftermarket tuner (Bazazz.net)???? invested some time in remapping an NC700X and did get some hp changes in the output. This was seen and discussed in the ADV site's long running NC700X thread in the Road Warrior forum. Not much interest there either and the subject faded away but you might try to contact them for info.

Good luck!

Please don't take our responses here as any kind of lack of enthusiasm for the generalities of hopping up or tuning engines etc., and that we don't get it, or understand where you're coming from. Quite far from the truth! It's just that a huge reason for most of us buying this bike in the first place, was because we knew the New Concept of it, was to have a different mindset in regards to the raison d'etre of the thing.

And it wasn't squeaking out more dyno numbers, lol :D

Maybe a Turbo would be the way to go, though...!

Just so I'm clear on this. I'm not looking for street bike performance. I had that and it only got me in trouble. The NC700X is great in many ways and I don't need face melting speed. That said, I really do like to modify cars, bikes, my house, the list goes on and on and on.

I guess I'm the odd duck around here. No worries, and thanks for the input.

There were a few discussions several months ago, but they seem to have pretty much died out. The only fuel controller currently available for the NC that I'm aware of is made by Bazazz (not sure of the spelling). Their controller has 2 maps, one for economy and one for performance.
Personally, I got the NC because of the combination of adequate performance and excellent economy. If I was interested in going with excellent performance and adequate fuel economy I would have bought a different bike. If I followed my usual pattern, the NC would have either an aftermarket slip on or full exhaust by now, but with this bike I've realized I'd rather listen to classic rock over a Bluetooth headset than a piped exhaust. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of performance. Previous bikes have included an R1 and a CBR1000RR, but for some reason on this bike I'm really enjoying mellowing out. On the other hand the just announced Yamaha FZ-09 is calling my name and if one becomes a stablemate of the NC it will no doubt get some performance parts.:)

I'm waaay interested in some performance boost for my bike, sadly not much on the market yet. There is a company in europe that makes a full exhaust that gets rid of the catalytic converter, and that has to be worth a few ponies, but until I see a good dyno sheet with the results, I'm not willing to fork up over $800 for it.
As others have mentioned Bazzaz made the fuel controller and the results were negligible, not worth the money to me, in fact they tested using a bike with an aftermarket exhaust so there might have been no impact whatsoever from their fuel controller. Shame, I was hoping for some good results, I would have been first in line.

My first street only bike was a Yamaha Vstar 1100 and I guess it spoiled me because after I had it for about six months someone on the forum realized what a huge restriction the stock air filter assembly was and got about six horsepower just changing to K&N pod filters that sat directly on the inputs to the carbs and rejetting. Then I added a two into one power exhaust and got another five or six horsepower. Made the bike a whole other beast, acceleration was so much better. Then I got a VTX1300 so my ex could ride with me (already turned the vstar into a single seat bar burner), and sadly that bike utterly refused performance gains from mods and in fact the aftermarket pretty much gave up on it, performance wise. I'm really hoping that doesn't happen here with the NC. I think the NC is great and fun and does everything I need, but there is always MORE... :)
