I've read of people storing things in the fake air vent on the NC. Where is this and how do you get in it? I don't have a owner's manual as previous owner has yet to come up with it. So other then looking at the bike I'm not seeing any scoops other then the 2 below the front blinkers and they have a grid in them so only bees will end up in there. Are those the ones? Do you have to take a panel off to get to them? thanks, rj

Let's see if this link works...

Well I'll be. I just took both sides off and they are equally unfilled. So what do we call these storage areas? We have a frunk, how about "fents" for false vents or "fides" for false sides? rj

Hey L.B.S. ...

Thanks for posting this ..... just like rjmorel - I've been wondering how to get in there ..

...

I can't remember if I mentioned it anywhere in that thread, but just be aware that the faux air duct spaces are open to the inside areas around the steering stem and bottom, so if you do put stuff in there, it's probably wise to use a waterproof covering or bag etc., and items too small, could simply fall out. It's pretty easy to see this once you familiarize yourself with the area, but it pays to remember this and not lose your prized marble collection, or possibly get your one of a kind, autographed edition of Heatwave, all soaked in road grime and water spray from the front tire.

I keep the electrical air pump and puncture repair kit on the left side and a rolled up long sleeve shirt on the other. Both are in large size zip-lock bags.
I've called it "phantom storage area" but "fucts" could work!

Will someone please make "covers" for these areas?
:p

What do you mean? A tool-less way to open them? A cosmetic cover to hide the fake vent grills?

I have vaguely thought about if it would be possible to replace the one phillips screw with a 1/4 turn captured quick release fastener. (aka Dzus-type) That would be pretty cool. I'd leave the plastic rivet alone; it's so easy to re/re that any change would probably be not as good.

I was wondering about cutting a round or square hole in the flat plastic piece thats under the trim piece that we take off on the frunk end that we could drop in a small plastic round or square tub into with a snap on lid. Lid would hold it from falling through and it would be more waterproof. rj

Hmm, that's a very cool idea. (in addition to using the other space as well of course lol, I'm greedy that way )

These spots?

I admit I haven't poked around too much under/behind those with any eye towards remembering what was under there; There is the fastener holding a connector bracket thingy on somewhere in there I think, and usually where there's a bolt or screw, there is a support rib or some other bit going to that locale. Whether this renders the space not so usable volume-wise to make it worthwhile, or if cutting a big hole in it compromises any structural integrity, I don't know off hand.

Since the first time I laid eyes on the faux air ducts I have wanted to turn them into yellow cat eyes/fog lights. I am anti-faux in all respects be it a fire place, a finish, or an air duct.

 I have always wanted to put some mini spot lights mounted in/at the duct inlets too!

Me too!! being thinking of putting some type of thin led short strip there. And i have the slime tire repair liquid stored there.

Thanks for the storage idea! I'm basically doing the same thing putting my slime pump and my tire pressure gauge. I had to check my tire pressure this evening and it only took about five minutes to retrieve the gauge check the pressure and replace the gauge and plastics. I'm trying to figure out something else to put in the other side.
Woot!
