San Diego NC700 riders, anyone up for a ride?

I'm driving (the cage!) up to Temecula that day to pick up my wine shipment! I am doing a week long loop of California (up to Eureka or so on the coast and returning on the 395 side) in June. Will be the first long distance ride since downsizing bikes.

    NC700/Suzuki DL650 comparison

I'm going to echo what some of the others said here. Lower center of gravity on the NC so it felt lighter and more flickable. The DL engine was more what I was used to in that you rev it more. The NC is 'diesel-like' as others have said. Gas mileage is awesome on the NC. I got 70 mpg on my...

    Looking for another bike

Did all my serious two-up touring on an ST1300 and a ZG1000 (old style Concours) before that. 5'7"/30" inseam here but these bikes are well suited for 'taller than me' riders. Both required an aftermarket top case (Givi) but it was money well spent for the storage space. Good luck on your search.

Who doesn't like the DCT and why?

I can't say I dislike the DCT because I've never ridden one and I've never been interested in trying one. I have three bikes in the garage -- all clutch operated. Having over 40+ years of riding experience with clutched bikes, I'm OK staying where I'm at. I did finally get my first automatic...

2016: What did you do to/with your NC700 today?

Rode out to the Anza-Borrego Desert (Ocotillo Wells & Borrego Springs area) by way of the mountains in Julian and lunch at the Round Up Grill at Lake Henshaw. Mid to low 60s in the mountains. About 80F in the desert.

    Private Help Request (relay picture)

I didn't read this whole thread in detail, but the link back at Amazon shows this heating element's power requirement is 22 Watts -- if that is at all accurate. Using 12VDC as the low input voltage value, the current demand would be roughly 1.8 Amps. Sounds like some of these high current...

    overfilled my tank

I'm in CA too...when I fill up, I just retract the nozzle's boot with one hand and control the nozzle's flow with another. This way I can see the progress of filling the tank and reduce the flow as it gets close to the top. It is a two-handed process and a pain but I don't get any spills this...

    NC700X vs. NC700S

I have to ask...a street legal bike (with a department of motor vehicle issued plate and registration tag) also requires an OHV permit if the state considers the vehicle off-road capable?

    Heated Grips DIY (pictures)

I'm no expert on the inner workings of NC. I understand the alternator is rated for 420 watts which is more than enough power for the motorcycle's electrical system. Sounds like all of your incandescent bulbs were replaced with LED which should lower the demand on your alternator. Any extra...

    Heated Grips DIY (pictures)

Can your 'battery tender' source enough current for those heated grips? The heating elements would take about 2 to 3 amps for the pair which is more current than what your average trickle charger provides. My Deltran Battery Tender is rated for 750 mA (3/4 amp). Your battery can power the...

    12v plug install. (Other location)

Handlebar mount here too. Run my accessories as needed (phone, GPS, etc.) when riding. The 12V socket doubles as my battery tender input when I park the bike for the night.

    GoPro Quadcopter

^^^ When law enforcement officers deal with a member of the public, the law will classify it either as a "consensual encounter", a "detention", or an "arrest". There are important legal differences between these three definitions and what the public can or cannot do. Someone being detained is...

I use a Garmin GPS60CSx which is geared more as a hiking unit than for vehicular traffic.

    panniers vs. topcase

Another vote for top case over the panniers. Having downsized from bikes that had all three, I prefer the narrower profile of the top case solution only. When I need more room, I expand to the rear seat (and in front of the top case) with duffel bags. I agree with those who say carrying the...

The Honda Crosstourer VFR 1200x DCT

My ST1300 insurance was never that high ($700 to $800 per year) -- even out here in CA. As far as future touring machines for myself, I've been eyeballing the FJ-09 but I'm guessing the COG on that bike is not as low as the NC's.
