I am curious if there are other forum members who who ride a Gold Wing too.

I recently picked up a used NC700X because I spend a lot of my day riding in and around Chicago for my job. The Wing is allot of bike to haul around in city traffic.

Yes, I have a 2002 GL1800. I rode it about 5000 miles this year, in addition to my NC700X miles. Both bikes have their place in the world. If I had to reduce the fleet to only one bike, the 'Wing would be the keeper.

I have two Goldwings, a 1978 GL1000 and a 2008 Gl1800. Sense January - GL1000 (My favorite) - 6,000 miles, GL1800 - 3000 miles, NC700 22000 miles. Low on mileage this year, as I was down 2 months (July and August) with shoulder separation. Going to ride the entire east coast (Maine to Florida) next few weeks, leave on Monday 7th. Doctors told me on Thursday, (after they tried shocking me to death about 30 times, felt like holding a hot spark plug in your hand) they are going to move some nerves around in my left arm, trying to get some feelings back into my left hand. I told the quacks they were going to have to wait till I got back from my east coast trip. Being I am tired of dropping those tools, looks like I will loose at least another month's riding time this year too the quacks. So a quarter of the year will be lost. But for now, Ride!

Oh yeah, sometime next year, if the quacks will leave me alone, I will be riding National Route 40 (Argentina). From Texas to Argentina, if anyone wants to go (January to June). Got to be back by July, to ride Washington Backcountry Discovery Route with Nortwestrider.

You didn't, perchance, separate your shoulder the way I separated mine a couple years ago with an unplanned get-off on a gravelly curve?

I do love my Wing. I refer to it as my wife's bike, because we have found that it is the most comfortable two-up bike for us. We arrived at that decision after owning several Beemers that always felt too top heavy with a pillion on board.

I would love another Wing having owned a 1000 and a few 1100s inc an Aspencade but these days my wife can think of 24449 reasons why not all of which start with £ :)
This equates to $39164.85 What is the average cost of a new wing in the US?
Here is my Aspencade looking very dated

A rare shot of Mrs Rocker66 riding pillion

talking of looking dated my 1st Wing really does now

Do a search on Nana Chou and Alaska - you'll find two or three threads that detail the whole adventure and some great pictures.

My friend has a GL1800, I believe it's a 2006. He bought it last year while sitting on the crapper reading a Michigan auto trader magazine. He picked it up for 10k bucks, and had 5k original miles on it. It was a misprint, and the seller had to honor the price. He bought it the very next day, cash in hand. Lucky SOB lol...

I've got a 79 GL1000 along with the new NC. Similar to OP, I found the GL too heavy for my short commute. My trip to work is 3.5 miles door to door and the GL doesn't hardly even lift the temperature peg off the "C". This leads to poor fuel economy (maybe 30ish MPG if I'm lucky). I've also found the NC actually more comfortable for me. On the GL, I am basically sitting perfectly straight up and my lower back doesn't like that after an hour or so. The ever so slight lean forward on the NC is better for me.

I'm selling my GL if anyone is interested. Price is $2,000 starts and runs fine. Basically everything replaceable is new.
